Default Ram 1500 AFTER transmission recall?

We are only just now getting our recall notices in Canada for the faulty two stage forged trans shafts on the Ram 1500 V6 eight speeds. My letter tells me to wait until they have parts AND SOFTWARE ready in place. This concerns me.

First of all it seems like they knew that these output shafts were not up to snuff, so they only put them in the V6 applications. Hemi's did not get them. (or maybe the V8 were just slower to get the 8 speeds and missed getting them by chance. It WAS early production. I hope so.) Secondly - why software? I sure hope they are not going to re program the shifting points to power down this fine combination to reduce torque load on the shaft. I've been so happy with this truck, and was not regretting the choice of a V6 at all for my uses.

Have any of you in the States already had your trucks in for this recall? Any impressions? It's a damn good transmission and I'd like to think that Chrysler was just doing the right thing and making an improvement on the early production units. I'm also encouraged by the fact that the 2014s have the same HP/torque specs.

The 8 speed transmission used in the v6 trucks is different from the one used in Hemi trucks, so I don't think Chrysler put out faulty output shafts on the v6s intentionally. The gear ratios are the same, but the one in the Hemi application has a higher torque rating because the 8 speed used in the V6 can't handle the Hemi's torque and the one used in the Hemi would just be unnecessary for the V6 as it is not that powerful.

My guess is that the software isn't what they're waiting on, its probably the parts. Have you heard about the differential recall in the earlier 4th gen. Rams? My dad waited I think 7 months after getting his recall notice for a local dealer to get the parts for it. I read an article yesterday about GM vehicles from 2006 that won't be receiving the new ignition switches they need until next month when the parts become available.

I'd drive the truck easy until the recall is performed if I were you, but I don't think they tried to pull a fast one on anybody. I also doubt that they will detune the shift points. Let us know how the truck is after you get the work done though.

Aren't the 8HP70s that go with the Hemi made by ZF in Germany and the 8HP45 in Kokomo?

Yes but some of the early 8hp45s were bought from ZF. I believe the ones made in Kokomo have the strengthened parking prawl that they added to increase the tow rating for 2014 and are designated 845RFE. All the 8HP70s have been made by ZF.

Anyone know how I can tell if I have the faulty part? I bought mine in April of 2013 and it had the 6 with the 8 speed.

5663 2013 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Ram 1500 vehicles were only effected. Thats not many vehicles. I've yet to get a recall. Doubt its coming. My trucks built in Jan 13 with a german build zf. Three build locations for ram v6/ tf8 transmissions. ZF Getriebe GmbH plant in Saarbrücken, Germany, Gray Court, S.C and Kokomo Transmission Plant. Not sure which had the bad output shafts though. I would bet the Chrysler plant cutting corners, but don't quote me on it.

I haven't seen anything on a recall and when I looked up my truck on the ramtruck owners site nothing came up, is this only for certain rollouts of the V6 8 Speed?

Oh please don't try to play the superior German engineering BS. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen are all German automobiles and all of them have their issues with quality.
