Default New Article on the EcoDiesel motor

Ram 1500 motor is also used in a Maserati. Hope it's service history isn't as bad as Maserati.

Also this is concerning.

"But all the worries dissipated immediately when the trucks finally went on sale. Between the afternoon of Feb. 7 and the morning of Feb. 10, Ram Truck received more than 8,000 EcoDiesel orders, which quickly filled the initial allocation for the powertrain, Chrysler says. Now there are concerns about demand outstripping supply."

Yep... I read that one last night.

With the high demand.... it would only make sense that we would out order the supply right now, since the engines and tranies are coming from over seas.

Mercruiser has used the VM diesel for years. A pretty well proven motor. Wouldn't mind a Maserati sitting in my Drive. I might by a flatbed to tow it to the dealer behind my Ram, though.

Great news. My only concern is that I dont know what trans they are using. A great motor, with a trans that won't handle the torque, would be a big mistake. I hope they make the right choices.

It gets the same 8 speed trans that is behind the Hemi.

VM Motoroli engines are in several different makes of foreign vehicles, including Ferrari

None of them are using the 3.0 that is in the Jeep & Ram
Fiat, GM, & Penske have all owned all or part of the company
More recently Gail Banks has had his hand in design & performance of the 3.0 Eco Diesel

8 & 9 speed ZF transmissions can also come from the ZF plant in Greenville, South Carolina
Chrysler is also building or rebuilding its Kokomo Indiana plant to begin production of their own ZF transmission
Chrysler is building the transmissions in two plants in Indiana (Kokomo and Tipton), thanks to over $843 million in plant investments and licensing from ZF. That plant is not yet open

Original is at ZF 9-Speed Automatic Transmission for Chrysler and Dodge cars http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmis...#ixzz2wxGeLqwd

This is the most interesting Light Duty on the market from any brand. I can't wait to test drive one.
