If you plan on keeping your truck for an extended time, I think it is worth it.

when you buy a new vehicle, you automatically get the factory warranty
You can't usually walk out the door unless you purchase some kind of extended warranty

What they do is cancel the extended warranty, it still has Value, like a bad tire, they Pro Rate your extended warranty. The Pro Rated amount goes towards which ever extended warranty that you choose & you pay the difference in price. They usually allow you to make payments or just pay it off
Since I'm debating on if I should get the lifetime extended warranty too,I'm making sure I understand this correctly. It sounds like you bought some kind of extended warranty(not lifetime) when you bought your truck. Before the factory warranty ran out,you upgraded the unused extended warranty you already bought and paid for to the lifetime warranty. The additional cost you paid was $1100.If this is the case, wouldn't you have to add the cost of both extended warrantys togeather to get the total cost of your lifetime warranty?Or did you get the price of the 1st unused warranty back?Since the extended doesn't kick in until the factory warranty runs out,it should be worth what ever you paid, minus a small chrg.I do know when I traded before my extended warranty ran out,the dealer could give me more $ if I agreed to let him go over and repair anything he found not perfect with the truck at no cost to him before I canceled it.Then any remaining balance was returned to me.This warranty stuff gets confusing and just want to make my best choice.

Default Lifetime Warranty

Hello All,

I purchased the Lifetime Maxcare Warranty (LWM100N) w/$100 deductible three days ago for $2,200 when I bought my truck. I also bought this same warranty when I bought my wife's 2012 Wrangler Unlimited. In addition, I purchased an extended (not lifetime) Maxcare warranty when I purchased my 2006 Jeep Commander new in Hawaii (later traded in for the Wrangler). The Lifetime Maxcare warranty extends your factory bumper to bumper for as long as you are alive. I used the Commander's extended warranty in 2011 and it was honored without question here in Louisiana. The dealer punched in the VIN and it brought up the warranty info. The Commander had a number of issues at the time. The dealer worked all of them and I paid the $100 deductible. You obviously do need to stick to the maintenance schedule to keep these warranties valid. I think there is an annual check up required as well.

The way I figure it, Jeeps and Pickups are vehicles people tend to hold onto for many, many years. The knowledge I can keep these rigs on the road through these warranties, indefinitely, is very reassuring. One other thing, I have heard some people say that once the repairs cost more than the market value of the vehicle, say in 10-15 years, the dealer will not make the repair. I've read through the entire warranty numerous times and there is no clause on market value of the vehicle and denied repairs. If it breaks in your lifetime, you pay the deductible and it gets fixed.

Cheers,

Joe

Lifetime warranty sounds good to me.I think I'll start negotiating for it now since my truck won't be here for awhile. If I can get for around $2500,I would be happy.

joelaterdayz make no mistake the clause is in there I have read it in black and white. if the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the vehicle they will not repair it. I will try and find it but I have read it in black and white

I'll be picking up my truck in about a week. Is this something I should do right away or can I hold off a bit?

You can do it right away if you want to purchase it (and not some third party warranty) through your dealership. Just have the print out of the online price in your pocket when you go to finalize your transaction. When they talk about "warranties", tell them you specifically want this factory backed warranty. See what price they give you. If they come in over the online price, take out your print out and tell them to match it, if you want to buy it from them, there and then. From what I've seen online, the price doesn't change at all for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles. So, you have some time to decide.
