Default Is there a kit for trailer wiring on a truck without tow package?

I've got a '99 Ram 1500 with a flatbed on it and want to get some wiring run so I can pull a trailer. Where do I even begin? Is there a kit out there that I can buy that just plugs right in or do I have to splice into the brake and tail lights? My main question is what's the difference between my truck and a truck that came from the factory with the tow package and all the wiring and trailer plug in.

Old Post I know.. But yes there is a kit that you can buy... I just installed one on my truck last week end. I got a brake controller Kit from NAPA for the 1996-2013 Dodge Ram ( I would need to dig through my receipts for the harness number, but it plugs into the main cab wiring harness and then to the brake controller. Tucked inside the left side frame rail is an unused 7 pin connector for all the trailer towing stuff.

yes there is a factory trailer tow kit that has 7 pin and all wiring.I used to use the kit on customer trucks without factory trailer tow package. It contains a relay that feeds power to the trailer running lights so you do not put the load on the headlight switch and burn it up.Should be available in the mopar accessory catalog, I used to order them from the local dealer.
