Default Did GM step in its own doo doo ?

On the news tonight, they are saying that an ignition switch was defective & GM never let the NHTSA know about it. It had cost at least one person her life & it may have been the cause of as many as 13 front seat deaths

Ya, saw that on the news last night as well. Quite shocked that a fault in the ignition switch can cause this. Worse than the Toyota's runaway gas pedal, at least they admitted they had a problem and fixed it.

They admitted nothing; until recently. These are 6-8 year old cars and they knew there was a problem and did nothing.

At least the new CEO came forward with it as soon as she learned about it.

The beautiful thing is part of the deal on the government bailout is a little rider in it that states the government will pay for any repairs on recalls on any vehicles made before 2010.....you guessed it, were footing the bill.

And if I was a half way decent lawyer and I had a client with a vehicle with this problem that caused injury or death during the 2-3 years the government owned the majority of GM I would sue both GM and the government. I mean this was going on when the US government was running it and they didnt inform anyone either...we will probably be paying for some of that....

What a great puddle of doodoo

It's interesting. Are they trying to be the more "caring" company, now that a woman is in charge? This opens them up to alot of litigation. But none of it applies before the bankruptcy. Different company!

Yeah they stepped in it and they proved they are STILL the same ole POS car maker they've been for the past 30+ years.

GM needs to go under...get split up and sold into 3 or 4 different companies. Some new and viable competition would be a good thing.

GM STILL doesn't make vehicles that people want and its STILL all crap. Whats next? ANOTHER bailout?

Their sales figures also get skewed upwards due to government fleet purchases. I would never let a Gub'mint Motors hunk of crap even park in my driveway.

No company is infallible when it comes to things like this. they'll all hope it goes away and no one notices especially when it costs them money and bad press

First of all as a retired GM worker of thirty years GM Ford and Chrysler all build vehicles that are built with cheep parts. It is all about money and not quality. They out source all parts to the cheapest bidder . After all the company that makes the parts also wants to make money so guess what the parts are cheaply manufactured . And then it is passed off to the consumer ; you and I . So no mater what you drive the parts wont last as long as they use to . I bought a 2013 dodge ram 2500 and guess what I have noticed those parts on my truck also. So hears to spending more money on vehicles that are built with cheap parts.
