Default found a mystery wire

Hi all,

While I was running power wires for my ham radio, I stumbled upon a mystery wire under the driver side sill plate. Someone at some point tapped in to the heavy gauge orange wire in the bundle of wires that is in the driver side kick panel area, put a fuse holder on it and ran it through the parking brake grommet towards the back of the truck.

I ran out of time to trace the wire out before I had to go to work. I'll get on that tomorrow. Does anyone happen to know what the orange wire in that bundle is and where it comes from? It's obvious that it is some kind of power, but if anyone knows offhand what circuit it might be that would be a big help.

It sounds like the main power supply to the fuse box itself.

Doesn't the power to the TIPM come straight from the battery under the hood? I didn't think there was another fuse box in this thing.

Yes it does, however the wire that feeds the TIPM (PCM) is not that big compared to the + feed to the battery itself.

As the PCM controls all electronics within the vehicle and considering some past problems whereby the TIPM itself would malfunction/crash instead of one individual fuse maybe this wire was designed for power without going through the PCM?

I think I figured it out. That orange wire is a constant 12v source. The mystery wire goes back to the trailer plug where it is snipped off. Looks like maybe someone blew the fuse for the regular 12v feed at the trailer plug and ran this one instead. Why they chose to pull a (30 amp!!) line from that orange wire and not straight from the battery I will never know.
