Default Heads up to all you Do-It-Yourselfers!

I just got to the 1500 mile mark today and figured it was time to get rid of the original oil given that I don't feel comfortable with a new motor breaking in and running that original oil until the OLM tells me its time. Well needless to say I switched over to Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic and went with a K&N filter. Went to my local Advance Auto Parts and they list the HP-2010 as the oil filter of choice. Took it home and noticed they aren't even close to the same size and it would actually hit the block if I tried to use it! Quick check with the ole smart phone on K&N website shows that our 2014 Hemi equipped trucks take the HP-1017. So if you're switching over to K&N filters make sure you reference their site to get the right p/n. Looks like 2009-2013 used the larger HP-2010 but not the 2014.

Good advice.
Also, maybe run conventional oil again for another 2-3000 miles. On factory engines or rebuilt especially, I like to change between 500-1000, then again with conventional oil to get everything "seated", so to speak. Running synthetic or syn/blend too early may not be the way to go, but that is my opinion. I use full synthetic and run it longer, but depending on your use, dusty job sites or heavy hauling, your intervals may be shorter.

Primo, I think I might have misquoted. After further research our 2014 did come with a smaller filter, but I guess some are using the larger 2010 and it still fits!

perfect.

i actually was going to change my oil this weekend but only had the 2010 filters.

my mechanic friend said that the 2010 is the standard Chrysler filter and there would be no issues.

although, since ready this post, i did notice that K&N did update their part number on the 2014. it used to be 201 on the website!
