I saw this this morning. This fiasco is not good for GM, and it is much worse than the Toyota one that spurred an investigation from the government. They will be feeling the effects of these recalls for a while. First they tried to cover it up on previous models, and now it may be a similar issue with current production vehicles?

I don't usually feel recalls are a bad thing, it usually means that the manufacturer has realized a problem (most of the time before many of their customers do) and is taking steps to fix it. Even when the input pinions on the gen 4 Rams got recalled and it took a while to get parts Chrysler notified owners so that they would be aware of the problem. Some guys even loctited their own pinion nuts.

Any manufacturer can have a problem with a run of a mass produced items. I think most people understand that, and don't let the fact that there was a recall on their vehicle sour them on the vehicle or the brand as a whole. The problem here is that there are signs of a cover-up by GM that may have led to the deaths of several customers. If that's not unethical I don't know what is.

it is probably a good thing for the industry. they tend to let people die first and get it well out there before they do something about it.
i know it is about money, but how much is enough?

holy crap, it IS bad, and all in all, they are at 5 million vehicles so far:

Fractured Front Axle Shafts

Impact: 172,000 vehicles
Vehicles Involved: 2013-2014 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4L Turbo

Problem: After issuing a stop-delivery on some Chevrolet Cruzes Friday, GM has announced a formal recall of the car. According to GM, the right side front axle shaft may become fractured and separate without warning. This could cause loss of control of the vehicle. GM dealers will be instructed to replace the right front axle shafts on effective Cruzes.

and the bad news never comes alone, this is foe the 2014....

Transmission Cooler Line Leak

Impact: 490,200 vehicles
Vehicles Involved: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, 2015 GMC Yukon/Yukon XL

Problem: GM has discovered a cooler-line in the six-speed automatic transmission that may pose a fire risk. The company is aware of three incidents of fire, none resulted in any injuries. GM has not disclosed how the issue will be fixed.

Ignition Switch Recall

Impact: 2.6 million vehicles
Vehicles Involved: 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2005-2010 Pontiac G5/Pursuit, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn ION, 2007-2010 Saturn Sky

Problem: A faulty ignition switch may cause the key to go to the off or accessory position while driving, which can cause loss of control. The recall was expanded late Friday by 971,000 vehicles (included in the above list) because GM changed the ignition switch at some point, but did not change the part number of the switch. This means the company cannot be entirely clear if some vehicles have been changed or not. Owners should visit this site for details.

Side Airbag Wiring Harness

Impact: 1.18 million vehicles
Vehicles Involved: 2008-2013 Buick Enclave, 2009-2013 Chevrolet Traverse, 2008-2013 GMC Acadia, 2008-2010 Saturn Outlook

Problem: Vehicles equipped with side impact airbags in the front seats may display a Service Air Bag warning. If the warning is ignored, the air bags may not deploy during an impact. Dealers are to expose the wiring harness of the side airbags and "splice and solder" the wires together.

Noncompliant Instrument Panel

Impact: 303,000 vehicles
Vehicles Involved: 2009-2014 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana commercial vans

Problem: Vans with a gross vehicle weight rating under 10,000 pounds do not comply with a head impact requirement for unrestrained passengers. GM dealers will have to "rework" the instrument panel (dash) to correct the noncompliance.

Brake Booster Pump Corrosion

Impact: 63,900 vehicles
Vehicles Involved: 2013-2014 Cadillac XTS

Problem: A relay associated with the brake booster pump may cause corrosion. This corrosion can build up and cause plastic to melt, and in some cases, engine fires. GM is aware of two engine fires that happened in unsold XTS'. GM has not specified how this issue will be resolved.

and exhaust temperature being too high..that's another bad recall
add a ridiculous price to all this and you got a recipe for disaster. this is SO typical GM: take a good thing, dumb it down, make it ugly, take all the fun out of it, put options related to impossible to please trims and then pat each other on the back for the "good" job you did.
GMC is next.
