Default Oil questions

Hello everyone, only my second post.

I thought I read somewhere that mobil one synthetic wasn't approved yet for model year 2014 rams. Is that true? I have used it faithfully in my last 3 vehicles but if that's true I'll have to make a switch.

So if a guy wants to run full synthetic what are the options for the 5.7 hemi?

Thanks

I'm new here but I'm pretty sure this has been covered before - maybe 7 or 8 times.

Select option help me decide then choose your vehicle....http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/.../Homepage.aspx

This is what it says for me...The company that manufactures your vehicle recommends this Mobil 1 product, or has a special requirement.

As long as it's a good quality oil I would say you don't have a problem. It would be nice to meet the Chrysler spec but I wouldn't worry about it.

I have in front of me a quart of Mobil 1 10W-30 Fully Synthetic oil [I know it's not 5W-20]. On the back of the bottle is carries the API Certification Symbol required by the Owner's Manual and it carries a statement that says "Exceeds warranty requirements for gasoline and turbocharged engines in the following applications: Chrysler MS-6395"

Sure that is fine for the 10w-30, but the 5W-20 that the trucks call for is not MS-6395.

Mobil one is not currently certified for our trucks. It is a great oil and would probably be better than anything that is MS-6395 certified, but it comes down to warranty. I would hate to have my warranty voided from running non certified oil.

What oils are certified for our 2014 1500's? Like I said I didn't know and changed mine with mobile one and it was my trucks first time since factory. I doubt it will be a problem so early on but for cute reference what synthetic oil should be used?

From the manual. I run the Pennzoil Platinum as it meets all of Chrysler's requirements.

Quote:
For best performance and maximum protection under all
types of operating conditions, the manufacturer only
recommends engine oils that are API Certified and meet
the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-6395.
Quote:
Engine Oil Viscosity – 3.6L/5.7L Engines (1500
Models Only)
MOPAR SAE 5W-20 engine oil or equivalent Pennzoil®
or Shell Helix® is recommended for all operating temperatures.
This engine oil improves low temperature
starting and vehicle fuel economy.
The engine oil filler cap also shows the recommended
engine oil viscosity for your vehicle. For information on
engine oil filler cap location, refer to “Engine Compartment”
in “Maintaining Your Vehicle” for further information.
NOTE: SAE 5W-30 engine oil approved to Fiat
9.55535-S1 or Fiat 9.55535-S3 may be used when SAE
5W-20 engine oil meeting MS-6395 is not available.
