Default New 4 cyliinders for MY 2016

I don't think this is old news because its the first I've heard of it, but Chrysler will be getting a series of new-likely turbocharged-4 cylinders for model year 2016. Then again I keep up mostly on Ram news and not necessarily other brands all that well so maybe this has been covered before. Link:

http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php...ders-confirmed

My thoughts are that Chrysler offers the best diesel (Cummins), and V8 (Hemi) powertrains in the industry, with a track record of reliability and longevity. With the (fairly) recent launch of the Pentastar V6 we can hopefully add the V6 category in a couple of years once we can see how well they hold up for the long haul.

But I feel like Chrysler has been ignoring their 4 cylinder offerings, especially after reading how unimpressive the Dart (which I still believe should be offered with the Pentastar) is performance wise, and how much of an improvement the Pentastar was to the Avenger and 200. Not that they were necessarily bad, just that they are not really good. To me this never made much sense because 4 cylinders are a huge chunk of the market-a lot of teenagers get them for their first cars, etc... I think this will be a good move for Chrysler and I really hope these 4 bangers are good engines. I also feel like the turbocharged aspect is aimed at Ford and their Ecoboost offerings.

turbo charging is one of the most efficient ways of upping power and mpg. audi and others have ben doing this for years. dodge had a turbo in the late seventies as did the mustang. not really a new technology.

I too am surprised by the so-so 4cyl. Fiat has alot of already-developed 4-cyls from their European offerings. They also have alot of diesel experience. Why not a 3cyl diesel for the Dart? The last-gen Sebring-Avenger had a 4cyl diesel available for export. Also all-wheel-drive.

all wheel drive now going to be available on the 200. diesels most likely cost too much to be epa compliant.

There is a teaser image going around for this year's NYIAS. I think it might be a Dart R/T. If it is then I'm sure it will be a turbo 4.

About time! Sadly, the Dart is NOT a small car. Though classified as small, it is as large as my 2001 Stratus. The 200 is launching now. We are really trying hard to get it right from the start. LOTS of galvanized metal in this thing. You're gonna love the interior.

Yeah the Dart seems to be about the same size as an Avenger to me, so I could never figure out why the Pentastar could be had in the 200/Avenger but not the Dart. It seems like it could benefit from a V6, at least in an R/T package or something.

Big car, but not much room up-front in the engine-box. A Pentastar would make that thing a rocket! The Pentastar was originally planned to be a "Direct-Injection" motor, but things were scaled-down during the "rough-years".

I was wrong. It's the new Charger. They ruined a good thing.
