Ram popularity is definitely on the upswing here, as I'm seeing a lot of new Rams on the road.

Chrysler as a whole has done good with getting rid of there own competition vehicles, like the Liberty/Nitro and others in a market that has plenty to choose from. My question to GM is why still after all these years are you still competing against yourself in the truck market?
I don't know exact numbers and info but if Ford has had the #1 selling truck an GM is 2nd, if GM had 1 brand could they be #1?
Case in point for me is the RAM brand has come a long way and is finely getting some well deserved recognition.
I never understood this either. Basically the GMC is just a better looking, higher trim line Chevy. Now with the Silverado High Country it looks like Chevy is trying to take market share from GMC.

thunder, there was a time when a gmc truck had features that were unavailable in the chevy line. all car companies, usa, had a upper, middle and low range line of autos under different names. think, Cadallac, buick, oldsmobile, pontiac and chevy.
i can't think of any time where gmc and chevy sales combined outsold ford. nor can i think of a tim where ram outsold chevy.

Right, but now they are almost the same. Isn't that part of the reason why Oldsmobile, Mercury, Plymouth, etc... went away? Cost cutting measures to eliminate redundant products?

Exactly. Before GM pulled the plug on a few of there brands they had... Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, GMC, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn, i think i got them all. In some of the car categories there was probably 6 or even 7 version of the same vehicle.
I can understand car companies having two similar brands Dodge/Chrysler, Nissan/Infinity, Honda/Acura but more than that is just to much. And a company having 2 truck, compete against each other in such a major market, that are almost the same is pointless IMO. Im sure GM sells more Silverados than Sierras so i guess that the RAM is selling much better than the GM twins, since it sold more than Chevy did.

I was actually disappointed that they got rid of Pontiac. The rebranded Holdens were badass.

Yea, I think Pontiac was just getting back on the right track when the plug was pulled. The Holdens were pretty bad.

i agree pontiac was the preformance segment for gm and they were just back to that.
thunder, you are correct, made $ sense to consolidate and stop selling competing vehicles.
believe it or not, some of your old timers will still argue that gmc trucks are better than chevy trucks and vice versa.

They still make 4 versions of every vehicle. I think they should axe Buick and GMC.
