Default First year observations

We bought our first Ram a year ago this month and have been pretty happy. The good things have been great and the bad things suck. I love how the Hemi runs but hate the poor mileage, the hemi tick & the miserable to change oil filter. I think the fit & finish is second to none. The Rambox is a handy option, and love all the creature comforts. The lack of power folding mirrors is weird & the power passenger seat should have all the controls the drivers side has. The Alpine stereo sounds great but always loses my Sirius presets. I lov the heated & cooled front seats but why aren't the rear seats cooled? I can deal with all of these petty things but I absolutely hate the headlights. It is like holding a flashlight, what was Chrysler thinking. I have 13,000 miles on it and will probably keep it a couple more years. If it hangs together I will probably buy another Ram. If not I will have another GMC.

Good review.

The Hemi's milage should come as no surprise, though. Hell, even on my regular cab (lighter) Ram, it is not ideal. The "Hemi tick" is something we all seem to deal with, and while not absolutely the most easiest oil filters to change, I have seen much worse.

As far as the headlights, many members (like myself) find them more than adequate. But, many more do not. Have you looked into an HID upgrade?

Bottom line is, while your complaints are certainly valid, they can be addressed and/or explained.

Fair review.

I too think the headlights are terrible. It's a common complaint. However, I finally adjusted mine up a bit and it did improved things somewhat. You may want to try that as it's easy and only takes a couple of minutes to do. See if you like before you spent money on upgrades.

I have a RCSB Express and my city mileage is about 12-13MPG and my best hwy is 19.5MPG.

Hello from Seattle - - I was born in Deshler....
If you do not hot rod, the mileage will be better - - I got 21-mpg. on hwy, driving about 65mph. Hemi, with 3.92 gears.
Headlights were improved by adjusting - were set too low at factory. Still not great, but a big improvement.

Changing the oil in my previous 2008 RAM with the 4.7 was a BREEZE. It had a built in oil filter drip slide that made it nearly impossible to spill any oil on the drive way, I thought it was the most thought out thing on the truck! I was surprised the first time I got under my more expensive 5.7 and didn't have the same simple convenient option. Maybe the thinking was anyone that can afford a Hemi will certainly never change their own oil and therefore this is a bad idea?

On my wife's Nissan Altima I have to jack up the car, turn the wheel to the right, remove the inner fender linings, then I can barely reach the filter. Easier to take off the whole damn wheel - I don't even want to know what they were thinking...

Good to hear that your issues with your truck are small ones.

Why does the Hemi tick bother some people? Its not bad or anything is it?

Thanks for the review. Looking at getting a 2012 or newer Ram to replace my GMC Sierra. Is the Hemi tick similar to the GM LS cold piston slap issue? Just a noise, no ill affects?
