Default Fox 2.0 Shock Review

I promised a few people I would review these once I had them in the dirt.




Well. I not only got them off the road but I towed my travel trailer in some of the worst wind I've ever been in. All I can do is rave about them. They really roll significantly less in the wind than the stock shocks. The wind really wore me out and I'm really glad to have had them on the truck while towing. Normally I flinch crossing railroad tracks with the trailer on but these things took it in stride.

Off road these things are great. They are so beefy they just soak up everything even at speed. Love these things.

Good to hear! I have a set of Fox shocks coming with my BDS lift for my truck, looking forward to getting them on there and see how they ride on a 3500. They also look pretty sick!

I agree.

What I love about the Fox shocks is the margin of control and safety they bring to the table. I commute 100 kms a day and 35 of those are secondary hwy and dirt. Plenty of washboard these days and I tend to run between 100-180 km/h and no matter the speed, or terrain the truck feels predictable and stable.

I find the high frequency bumps are felt more than the slower (lower frequency) stuff. Those it undulates over nicely, but the faster stuff you feel more. And by faster I don't mean speed, I mean the frequency which the shocks cycle.

But no matter the feel, you're always in control and with a total of 8" lift and running heavier 37's this is pretty important at certain speeds.

Would you guys recommend these over the 5100s for a set up that's 35s and leveled? No lift. And also are they really worth the money over the 5100s. Either way I go I'm buying for all 4 corners.

You cant run these or the Bilsteins on the front of a "leveled" 4th gen unless you remove the spacer (I'm assuming) that was used to level it to begin with. If that's what you mean, then yes the Fox Shox are better than the Bilsteins.

Yeah have a HBS 3" inch I will be taking off. It was just a cheap way to run my 35s. I was assuming the Fox Shox are adjustable like the 5100s?

They are adjustable but the way they adjust is different from the bilsteins. The shock body is threaded and you adjust the ride height using a spanner wrench (which I recommend you purchase at the same time) to lift or lower. Bilsteins use a circlip in a groove which determines where the spring perch will sit. Multiple grooves for different height.

Here are the spanner wrenches for adjusting the Fox coil-overs:

And here is a Fox 2.5 coil-over on a tacoma application:



Ignore the numbers .. I grabbed this photo off of google images quickly. But you can see that unlike the Bilsteins, the Fox coil-overs offer nearly infinite adjustment .Not only up and down, but in relation to each other .. if your truck was heavier on one side , you could tweak that coil-over so it lifted the truck on only that side by a fraction of an inch. Bilsteins offer a small handful of adustments only.

And you could tweak the Fox's on the fly, whereas you'd have to remove the Bilsteins to make an adjustment.

Also my Fox coil-overs are entirely rebuild-able. I could change out the oil for a different weight, or the coil, or the valving etc etc. LOT's of custom potential, as well as the simple ability to overhaul the equipment instead of shelling out thousands to get all new shocks.
