Default Lift kit questions

O.k guys after searching the forum and seeing pics here and online I have decided I want to lift my truck 6 inches and add blistien shocks to the front to level it. So the front will be coming up about 8 inches and the rear 6 inches. With 35 inch tires in my opinion this setup looks perfect. I have pretty much decided on a rough country 6 inch lift, problem is they are a little harder to find in stock than a 5 inch rough country lift and the 5 inch is about $400 cheaper. I'm not sure how these kits work as I have never actually installed one but is there a way to buy a 5 inch and add and extra inch to it with a different type of lift. (not body lift). I see 2 inch spacers for the front all the time, I also see blistens for the rear that could give you a little extra, I'm just wondering if anyone knows a way to purchase a 5 inch lift and safely add something too it to get the truck up a little higher to equal the 6 inch lift. Also are there any other brand lift's that offer 6 inch kits that are reasonably priced? I can't seem to find any. Also they should not require welding and cutting to install, I need one that's pretty straight forward install.

The 5" Rough Country kits are for 2500/3500's, not 1500's. I'd also highly recommend Zone over Rough Country now as Rough Country has recently changed their kit design and no longer provide rear lift coils with their 6" lift, just spacers. The Zone kit has the option of 3" or 5" lift coils. Zone is prices a couple hundred dollars more than Rough Country but is worth it IMO.

I'm assuming I will still need the Bilstein shocks to level the front with the zone kit also, correct?

Yup definitely. macc08 is going to be running that exact same setup. Really it's the same as anyone running an older RCX kit with Bilsteins. Your lift and tire setup will be pretty much the same as what I had in THIS thread.

And that is exactly what I'm going for. I was just trying to stay under $1500 on the lift kit, but it looks like that's not going to be able to do that.

Nope... honestly saving up a bit longer to get a better product is totally worth it. We all know how hard it is to do that at times.... but in the end you'll be happier with what you get.

Can you please explain the disadvantages to the spacers over the new coils? What are the downsides to just the spaces in the new rough country design? I do not do heavy off roading, just a trip down a muddy logging road occasionally to get fire wood or to find a good fishing hole. Otherwise it's town and hwy driving. I'm still leaning toward the Zone you suggested, but my price difference is $500. Is it worth that difference? And no I have not yet talked to Bully's Performance but I will before I buy.

Well for one, a spacer that tall is just a weakness in the system IMO. It provides a hinge point where the spring/spacer may be able to be pushed out. Very unlikely but it is possible. Two, they make noise. Any bump you go over, especially going down a muddy logging road, will having them clunking around like crazy. Three, when running a spacer that large your spring travel compared to your suspension height is way off. With a new spring you have the entire distance from the rear diff to the frame for the spring to compress. You wouldn't use quite all of it... but it's set up how it should be. With a large coil spacer you still only have the distance that the stock spring can compress while your truck is 4.5" higher in the air.... Doesn't really make sense to have that.

Definitely talk to the guys at Bully's for a price. The difference of $500 definitely doesn't seem right to me. I think it should be more like $300.
