Default Synthetic Oil Question

I've always used conventional oil in my vehicles, but want to switch to synthetic. My manual calls for 5W-20. I'm just wondering if I need to use 5W-20 with conventional too, or what would be the best for synthetic.

I'm using Amsoil 0W20 signature series , four years running with a UAP Napa gold filter. Bully's performance sells it at an awesome price. Yes 0W20 is perfectly fine and equivalent to 5W20.

Hey NP. I used it in my 08 Dak as well with the 4.7. It's an excellent oil. On my Ram I have 40,000 kms and my oil level just never drops even after 8k.

I use Redline synthetic in everything,motor/tranny/rear diff.
Amsoil and Redline are fairly close, either one is good.
Both are an oil group higher then most other brands of commercially available synthetic oils

Thanks everybody. I picked up some Mobile 1 0W20. I wanted to go with Amsoil, but didn't think I'd be able to find it around here. After I picked up the Mobile 1 at wally world I went over to Fleet Farm and saw that they carry Amsoil.

MObil 1 consistently gets better reviews from lab that have no interest in the outcome.
(I use conventional motor oils, however, and my vehicles always run well past 300K if I don't wreck them first.)

Maybe give us a link to these other labs Ghorn.
I've never seen a lab test that rates Mobil1 higher then Amsoil or Redline,so i'd like to read your lab test findings.

Well...that's a fair request, and I"ve attempted to locate and provide a link to the report I relied upon to make that comment....
...unfortunately, I've apparently lost my resource. My laptop (otherwise known as my "brain") was recently lost in an accident (water sprinklers flooded it thru an open window) and the harddrive cannot be recovered. My new laptop (Windows-8... Yuck!) doesn't help me find the report.
PQIA may help. http://www.pqiamerica.com/
They provide tables of comparison between various oils, and their Mobil 1 chart indicates better NOACK testing results (volatility) for Mobil 1 than Amsoil . They don't list Redline I don't believe.

Here's a link that may prove informative: http://www.pqiamerica.com/March2013P...sallfinal.html

Anyway, my previous comment was indeed pretty anecdotal, and I was relying on memory more than recent lab result reports. I apologize.
