Angry McGaughy 44050

For anyone out there looking for a lowering kit for your truck I recently purchased the McGaughy 44050 for my 09 Dodge Ram 1500. The kit is awesome and comes with everything needed to lower my truck 2" in the front and 4" in the rear.

Does not work though that if you have stock 17" tires and wheels on your vehicle. You WILL NEED to buy new tires and wheels. After installing the drop on the front of my truck, the new spindles rub my rim and tires. After going back to SummitRacing (where I ordered them) and then also McGaughy and looking at the information, neither site made any indication that there might be an issue with rubbing with stock tires.

You would think that since McGaughy produced the product and had to test it, that they would make note on the site that you would need bigger tires but they don't. Neither does SummitRacing.

I spoke with a representative from SummitRacing and they informed me that they were sorry I had issues with the product but since I had already installed the product that they would no longer take it back for a refund. I explained to them that I had no way of knowing it wouldn't work since they didn't note anything on their website, but the rep said sorry and said that they would update their page to reflect that their might be fitment issues.

I have to say that I think that is pretty crappy. Now instead of lowering my truck only, I have to purchase a whole new set of tires and rims for my vehicle after I had already purchased new tires not even a year ago.

I think this will be the last time I purchase anything from McGaughy or SummitRacing.

A 1/2" wheel spacer will solve your issue and you don't need to buy a new set of wheels/tires. I found the same thing when I put my winters on as I'd be running my 22s when I did the drop, but a 1/2" spacer moves the wheel out enough on the OEM 17s to clear the lower ball joint, that's what's rubbing, not the spindle itself.

Question, are you a 2wd or 4wd?
