Default Parking Outside

I know this may be an odd question but heck.....what else are is there to do on a Thursday afternoon!?
My Ram is on order....HOPEFULLY I get it in about a month or so. I live in Maine and have had the luxury for a while to park my car in the garage. I have never owned a truck before and this truck is about 8" too long to fit in my garage....so it's going to have to stay outside. Maine sees pretty much every type of weather you can think of...from insane cold and snow....to hot high 90's and 100% humidity. Is there anything special I should do to the upkeep of my truck to make it last as long as possibly while always being exposed to the elements? Any 'tricks of the trade'? The driveway is paved if that helps any.
Thanks in advance!

Wash it was it frequently frequently. There are some good threads on here about the best ways to take care of your paint.

Check the Washing and Waxing section. There is a wealth of information in those thread. If it were mine I would put a good sealant on it and then consider using something like Opti Coat or something like it to protect the finish for an extended length of time. Wax will only last you about 3-4 weeks if you park outside so unless you enjoy waxing your truck once a month you might look for something that will last a lot longer.

I have to park my truck outside as well since there isn't enough room in the garage for it. I wash it at least every 2 weeks, and wax it once a month or so. I spray wax it if I wash it but don't do a full wax. I also use armor all on the exterior plastic to keep it from fading/deteriorating.

My dad has done the same with his 2009, but only waxes his every 3 months or so, and his paint looks almost new with the exception of the various dings and rock chips that have had to be touched up.

Being in Canada, I would recomend getting the truck undercoated before ext winter. And redo it at least every other year.

As the others have said, wash your truck. Now i only do mine when we get a warm spell, otherwise everything freezes up and causes problems. I think its more important if the city you live in puts salt down in the winter.

Thanks for the info guys! Just watched a bunch of videos of the '2 bucket method'. Certainly the way to go! Is it weird that I'm actually looking forward to hand washing my truck every week?

Being as you live so close to Canada
you could cross over & get your truck sprayed with Krown Rust Proofing once a year, to help with rust prevention
