Default heard tap sound...new mod to come now

last friday driving around I could hear a tapping sound echoing off other cars. When I got home I popped the hood and could definitely hear something, decided to tear it apart thinking something in the valvetrain (like a lifter) was causing this...with over 255k miles on motor I figured a lifter was going bad since it was the original stock ones. I pulled the timing cover and found that my chain tensioner broke and the piece was just sitting there... so then I decided to order a new tensioner, then timing chain since this was also the original. Then ordered new lifters and also a new oil pump...then my mind got to thinking more with the motor opened up and needless to say, I now have a 392 stroker assembly on it's way , also, since my 214/218 Spartan cam was worn, decided to get a bigger 230/240 bump stick too... this is going to be a fun build

I believe this caused the original problem...broken tensioner...




but the lifters were worn..



which in turn wore out the cam..



but the heads look great..all those miles and no sludge..




even the pistons looked good...but ima gona swap them out anyways

Fred, are you going to use the 6.1 oil pump? I've been told that the stock pump if marginal if you shift over 6,000 rpms and I shift at 6200. After seeing that, I think I'll change out my tensioners at 200,000 ! I'll be interested how that new cam works out.

I have heard a tapping sound in mine and was told by the dealer all Dodges make that "knocking sound" is this true and should I be worried??

There are different noises that are common to different engines

The HEMI engine is known for the infamous HEMI TICK, which commonly happens at initial start up, after the engine has been sitting overnight, it usually disappears within a minute.
