Default 6 speed to 8 speed conversion?

Not sure if this is the right place to start this thread or not sorry in advance if it's in the wrong place. Well pretty much I have 2009 ST 4x4 and I can feel some sort of either tranny slippage or the TC slipping or not locking up. When I graduate in June I'll be coming into some money. I'll probably have to replace or rebuild this tranny eventually (it has 150k+ miles). Would an 8 speed bolt up to place? I imagine that te driveshaft would have to ether be shortened or extended. But also would the transfer case bolt up to the new 8 speed? Also would it honestly even be worth trying to make this conversion, I know the programming would probably be the worst part to deal with. Do you guys think it would be better to just pull the stock trans and just build it up with better frictions, a new valve body, etc? Thanks for any input

Even if you could physically make it fit,
it would be nearly impossible to tune your PCM/TCM to make it function properly.

Rebuilding your stock 545RFE would be way less hassle,
and a fraction of the cost.

I won't say that changing out transmissions would be impossible, but i do believe that it would be very costly because of the programming

Maybe get a performance valve body & torque converter instead

this is something that might want to read

more about the transmissions

Thank you guys for the input, I had a feeling that the tuning wad going to be the down fall. Is this the appropriate place to discuss transmission? I've been looking all over re forum for more information on the topic. Thank you for the links as well, I'm sure they will be a good read.

Yup,

I just rebuilt my first Trans about 2 weeks ago, replaced several clutch packs
also have a custom built one from L&M customs that's getting fresh OD frictions and filters next weekend.

Good thread here: http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=153656
