Angry Not fixed!!

It didn't even take one day... Back to its old tricks. Cold start in the garage this morning, 4WD AUTO lights up, drive for a quarter-mile before it goes off and stays off the rest of the 25-mile trip into work.

The shift motor and the selector switch were both replaced. Back to the ol' drawing board... +

*** Quick question: What actually controls the indicator light on the dash on the 2011's??

Default Update

New Drive Train Control Module (DTCM) on order and should be in tomorrow. Apparently they detected an internal fault within the module. I really hope this fixes it for good this time.

Electronics and electrical gremlins are always the most frustrating things to trace. I've done my share of electrical troubleshooting on many, many projects over the years, and I would be completely lost on this truck! I gotta say the guys at the dealer have been awesome throughout this entire process.

This is freaky... After replacing the DTCM the thing has taken on a mind of its own. They have escalated the issue to Star master tech @ Chrysler. I still suspect it's a wiring issue... At least I know it's in good hands.

Personally I would have taken the 30 day return policy up on its offer at this point. Some cars are just not meant "to be"

i think that 30 days only applies to the first thirty days in service.

Yup. Anyway I have 2 more failed attempts and another week-and-a-half in the shop before the lemon law kicks in. Or they'll just do a buyback and find a similarly equipped vehicle to replace it. I'm just sick of this whole thing.

They are flying out a factory engineer to look at it, hopefully this week, but who knows with Memorial Day just ahead. I just hope this guy's as good as they say he is.

Nope.

We are waiting for the factory engineer to show up. Apparently he serves the entire region, so who knows what he has queued before us. He could show up today, or 2 weeks from now, and I don't think he can even give us an estimate until he's finishing up his previous case.

I don't think I can wait that long. I have a use case coming up next week where I need to use the truck. The fact that it has sat there for a week with nothing being done while waiting for someone to show up but nobody knows when, just burns me up.

The tech at the dealer said that if the engineer doesn't materialize today, he'll start working on it again on his own. I forwarded information I found on another forum (from about a year ago) that talks about performing a pin test on all the appropriate connectors; I'm sure that hasn't yet been done, and quite frankly that would have been the first thing I would have checked for an intermittent problem such as this. They are loathe to throw any more parts at it, and I agree with them 100%. I'm convinced that it's a wiring issue since there are no other malfunctions in any other systems whatsoever. Except for this one thing, the truck performs flawlessly.

I gave them a week before I need the truck back. If they aren't able to pull the harnesses, check the pin fit, clean & grease the contacts in that time I'll just do it myself. If that resolves it, great, otherwise call me when the engineer shows up and I'll bring it back in.
