Default 4WD not working after CV Axles Replaced

Good Afternoon To All! Recently I swapped out CV Axles and now my 4WD does not work!! The actual shift lever freely moves forward and backward, it doesn't even engage into the gears.

When pulling the CV Axle on the driver side I actually pulled the small axle piece from the differential because the part that fits into the main CV Axle was rusted inside, so I couldn't remove it. I bought a new small axle from Advance Auto that seems a little long and extends further out so that the actual CV axle doesn't firmly fit up into the differential, but I am able to drive the truck, not sure if I should be or not.

Can anyone provide me with info on how to fix this? Should I purchase a cv axle and small axle shaft for the differential from a dealership that wants $270 for cv axle and another $100 for the small axle to make sure I have true MOPAR parts??
