Posi Traction is GM's version of a limited slip,
Jeeps (Dana axles) call it Trac-lok, for Fords its Traction Lock, Chrysler is Sure-Grip.
For a Ram, the limited slip from the factory performs the exact same function.

In the old (pre 11' Rams) the Corporate 9.25" rear diff LSD was built by Auburn.
Not sure who builds them for the new ZF rear ends.

If you want a true Locker, that would be something a real off roader would use,
in the way of an aftermarket Detroit Locker, Power Trax no-Slip, Lock-rite, or a full spool or air activated ARB.

I've used a variety of these, the stock limited slip (anti-slip) is all you'll ever need for street use.
It uses a clutch activated system to engage the other side when slip is detected.
The down side is the frictions eventually wear out.

A better built limited slip is available through Detroit (Eaton) in a TruTrac
which uses a spring loaded helical gear engage system.

Bingo!

sorry if my first post was not clear

Stock tire size (33) divided by smaller tire size (27.5) = 1.2
Now multiply your current gear ratio by that factor (3.55 x 1.2 = 4.26)

as I first mentioned,
There was also a weight reduction and lower rotational mass
by dropping the rim size to 17" (from heavier 20" wheels)
So I drop about a half a second over a quarter mile.

Simply dropping from 33" 275/60R20 to a 32" 305/50R20 is not going gain anything.

The extra weight of the wider tire likely offsets anything you gained by dropping an inch in diameter.

Stock 275/60R20 Good-for-a-Years weigh about 40lbs ea.
My 305/50R20 Terra Grappler's are 49lbs ea.
(Nitto 420s are 46lbs ea.)

I have the 3.21 rear gears and the 8 speed. I want to upgrade to 4:10's and posi. Is that possible with my truck?

Yes you can!!! I would get a build sheet for your truck to be sure you have a conventional / open diff before you buy the parts. LSD and Posi traction are the same thing. So if you have the LSD all you would need is the gears. However the 8 speed tranny is by far the best with better low end torque with the additional 2 gears. Do some research before you make the decision. I swapped my 3.55 to 4.10 and love it, but wish I went with 4.5?'s. I wanted more off the line than I got. Plus I have the 6 speed tranny that needs lots of help.

You can get your build sheet at-

I thought the ZF axle didn't have many aftermarket parts yet. Hope you aren't paying an arm and leg.

Just put the Yukon 4.11:1 in mine Friday 29th of August, a date to ever be known as "4.11 gear day" henceforth :-)

(though the Yukon box printout says 4.10 - curious)

Bullydog tuner says 0-100kph in 6.5 vs. 7.5 secs with my 3.21 open - and this was totally 'side of the highway' testing.

Also got the Detroit TrueTrac to replace spider gears. 3.21s really would not spin just flooring it off the mark even with the traction control off. Now with with the TrueTrac 4.11 and traction control off, it will easily spin both.

BTW, I've found the Bullydog tunes to be complete and utter poppycock.

It knocks something fierce on "Premium" setting even with 40 gallons worth of octane boost poured into 12 gallons of gas. Shifting seemed hesitant as well.

Bully dog shouldn't have the GPS with performance testing on there because it only proves the tunes do nothing ;-)

With 4.56 you get down near where the 8spd 3.21 1st is overall 13.70 vs 15.1:1 for the HP.

6spd 2 and 3 are so close together, but IIRC 5spd has the same ratios but skips over the 3 to 4 while the 6spd passes through 3 (highway kickdown 'passing gear') going up

People kept telling me just go with 3.92 and I always thought that was kind of odd to draw the line at 4.00. I'm only driving 7000 miles per year. Thing is this is our car for long distance travel. It now has a cap on it and we go to festivals, tourist traps and camp in it. I can't go all-in for drag gears. I'm going from 1500rpm at 60 to 1800. 4.56 would take it to 2000 at 60 and pushing 2700 at 80mph.

My hope is that if I can run 2150 at 70mph I'll still get better gas mileage than running 1950rpm at 80mph with 3.21s because the aero resistance is so much greater 10mph faster.

Changing the gears I bet you could have the dealer correct the speedometer but the won't take off the speed limiter. The best bet is to do gears and get a tuner. The gears will make the truck much more snappy off the line. I'm thinking 4.10 or even 4.56 in my truck. I tow a huge boat with mine and the extra low end would really help get the boat moving faster off the line. The Hemi pulls it but it takes it a while to get into the power band. 4.56 would be great for me but I dread the fuel economy drop on the highway.

Unless ur mid 12 you will not top out your truck. Are you trying to say your truck will not go past 105? That not true either. I have 4.56 I get better miles on the highway and at 75 with 20 inch tires with 275/60/20 I only at 3k if that.

My truck cuts out at 105 mph. Tested it on the highway and if I stay on the gas a little past the 1/4 mile it cuts out. I trap at 97 mph but that averages. Closer to actually 100 or 101 when I cross the line. Its close for comfort.

3.92's with a 8speed is about as low as you want to go, 4.10's and 4.56's would be a drastic over kill and you would be doing nothing but shifting the entire 1/4 mile, there's a qc hemin8 speed with 3.21's and a tune running 2.0 60' at 8.98 1/8 mile and 14.0 1/4. Plenty of gear with the 8 speed, I promise that
