Default Taylor ThunderVolt Coil Packs

I just ordered a set of Taylor ThunderVolt Coil Packs the other day. I have 130K plus on the truck now, and just and a coil pack go bad. So far pretty good with the new coils. I also did a plug change. Did the Bosch Iridium plugs with the new coils. Wanted to see if anyone else did the Taylor coils as well, or if they went with a different brand like Accel or MSD's and if you have any feedback. Thanks, Andrew

There is zero performance value with an aftermarket coil pack and there have been a higher rate of failures with the aftermarkets coils compared to the OEM ones. The only time I'd even contemplate changing coil packs is if you wanted a pretty red coil pack, or if you were replacing 3 or more packs, then it's economically viable.

If it had been me I would have just replaced the one bad coil with another OEM one and been done with it. That said, it's not a bad thing you've changed them all out, but we've taken the OEM coils to over 1400rwhp on the cars before the coil wasn't hot enough to not blow out.

I'm still using oem...even with the turbo stroker. No problems so far. There is a YSI'd Chally putting almost 1100 to the feet on the oem coils.

I priced the oem coils vs some of the manufacture coils (taylor, msd, and accel) that my work carries, and it made more sense to go with the Taylors over the factory OEM ones. It was only 20 bucks ish more to get the Taylors over the factory ones. I figured with one going bad, maybe more would eventually go so thats why i replaced them all in one shot. Also i knew new coils is not going to really change the performance. I just wanted the sputtering to go away after one of my coils went bad. I did also do the plugs. Whats wrong with going with the Iridium plugs? So far so good, and no issues.

do you have a part number to those Taylors? I've never had a problem with my 9 year old, 255k miles original coil packs, but, with that said, I'm in the middle of a 392 stroker build and I think I might consider new coil packs since I'm pretty much replacing everything else..don't you think?

I've had this experience as well as a tech guy came on a few years ago to explain. The iridiums cause an inordinate amount of resistance which forces the coil packs to work harder...I remember that was the idea I got out of his explanation. over the years I've tried different plugs..iridiums, platinums and coppers...and for reliability I came back to coppers (Ngk's). I really don't care how long a plug lasts because they are cheap enough to change often if you want (and I do...)

when I ran them, I would get a miss here and there and almost blamed it on the cam I was running...then a few wide open stabs it missed more frequently, after a couple weeks I swapped them out for coppers and the misses went away. If it works for you then maybe it's ok..but my experience, not so much so...

coil pack part numbers:

Oem 56028394AD

Taylor 718108 (for the set)

MSD Blaster 82568

Accel Super Coils 140037-8

online I found Oem's for $249/set, Taylors are $392/set (Summit), MSD's are $399/set (summit), Accels are $351/set (Summit)

Chefred, those are the correct part numbers that i looked at for all those manufactures. Since my work is a dealer through Taylor, MSD, and Accel products i was able to get the Taylors cheaper then Summit prices so thats why i went with the Taylors. Like i said, i only paid like 20 bucks more for Taylors then the oem ones.
