Default Rotor mystery

My brother put a new rotor on his 1998 Ram 1500 Laramie 2wd. It was making a grinding noise so he brought it to me and I pulled it of and could see that it was not the correct fit. We thought they sold him the wrong rotor. Turns out it was the correct rotor for this truck but the previous owner had done some swapping along the way. The rotor that is on it does not have the abs gear. And the odd thing is it is stamped with GM. Appearantly it is a GM rotor on a Chrysler spindle with a Chrysler wheel. The lug pattern is 5x5.5 so the wheel appears to be stock. I (and several parts places) can not figure out what car this rotor came off of. And if it is a Chrysler spindle, why won't the correct rotor fit on there? Anyone have any ideas?
