Default Smoke em: VHT Niteshate

Another rainy weekend and another cheap mod.

I wanted to tint my taillights but plasti dip smoke doesn't look so good.
So I picked up a can of VHT niteshade and clear coat and went to town.

Two coats of niteshade and 3 coats of clear. Looks pretty good.

Did u do any sanding or just clean the lights and spray? I've been debating on doing mine but don't want to do any sanding.

No sanding.

I bought 2000 grit sandpaper and was going to sand and polish if it didn't turn out shiny and smooth, but it did.

I used Dupli-color clear coat.

Nice Job!! Did you buy brighter bulbs to offset the tint?

No, they are the stock '13 LED lights.
Seem pretty bright to me. We'll see if I get hassled.

My Niteshades is one of my favorite mods. I used VHT and Duplicolor clear also. Been on there going on two years now I think and still looks like the day I did it. My third gen has stock halogen bulbs and they still show through great even in daylight. Be glad you taped up the reverse lights though. I didn't and even though you can clearly see the reverse lights on the truck, they literally cast out no light. Backing at night with tinted windows is fun, lol.

I might buy a second set to tint. I used night shades on my old truck and I sanded first and cleaned with rubbing alcohol and when it dried it cracked and looked like alligator skin. They looked ok from 10 feet but I got pulled over 6 times in two weeks. I finally ordered new lights since nothing would take the vht off the lights.

I think NS is pretty sensitive to humidity and how you apply it. I did my own....first time using NS and they turned out great. Slick and glossy. Did a set for a buddy and they turned out great too. He was there and watched me do them step by step. He traded the truck and did his next set himself and they came out smooth but dull and milky looking. Dunno why.

I would suggest following the humidity and temp directions on the can. I lightly wet sanded, dried well, wiped really well with rubbing alcohol, three light coats 5-10 minutes apart, and 4-5 coats of clear at roughly the same intervals. Polish with a liquid polish like Mothers or Meguiars Ultimate.
