Those look great. I considered doing the backup lights like that, but white truck and white lights matched, so I taped them off. If I had a black or dark truck I'm sure I would have done the whole light black.

Got a pic of the back of the truck with them installed?

Sorry for the delay. Here ya go. They look really dark until the sun shines directly on them and then they really don't look all that dark. The sun was shining on them pretty good in this photo so you can see a lot of red. It's kinda hard to see but if you will notice the third brake light isn't getting as much sun and looks much darker.

This view is going to be a lot sexier in the near future I hope. Plan to modify the rear bumper for OEM-appearing fourth gen exhaust cutouts and exit.

That looks great. I have a silver truck as well. And you picture pretty much made the decision for me to do it. However, I will probably tape off the reverse lights because I have to back into my parking spot.

I would recommend taping them off. As I said earlier, you can see the reverse lights if you are behind the truck so others know I'm backing but as for actual light cast out to see by.....zero. My tails are still plenty bright even during the day. And you can't really tell in that pic but I did my license plate lights too.

I didn't think about the license plate lights, great idea, thanks. I have ordered LED replacement bulbs to help with brightness and visibility.

My license plate lamp lens were all yellowed and crappy looking. Just FYI, I don't think the lens is made to come out of the housing. The entire housing unit has to be replaced to replace the lens. Seems like new ones were around $20-30 each on eBay. I took them out, taped the housing off, and laid the NS and clear to them. They look great now....no more yellow!

I'd like to have LEDs for my tails but the stock bulbs are plenty bright enough even during the day so for the cost I haven't been able to bring myself to do it.

I put three light coats on mine and they really aren't that dark. I don't really see how you could have put enough on in one coat to get them too dark without running it but I guess it's possible. If you want to give it another shot, look into getting some LED replacement bulbs. It seems weird I know (since the stock halogens are white) but you need red LEDs. They will be very bright coming through the red lens.

Also, two to three VERY light coats instead of one. You probably did have to put it on very heavy to get coverage with one coat. The first light coat should be just a dusting really and will look splotchy and uneven. It will get a tad better and darker with the second coat. And the final coat will really even it up and make it uniform.
