Default A/C won't blow cold air. 2012 RCSB Express

Anyone else have any issues with their A/C system? I got back from the airport after being gone only 2 days to the AC not working. About a week before this I noticed a noise forming from the passenger floorboard area (like a vacuum leak type of sound) but it was still blowing very cold like normal so didn't think much of it. Now it will only blow ambient or hot. Maybe just needs a charge? Seems not old enough to need a charge yet but I guess it's worth a shot before bringing it to the dealer to get screwed.

Damn! It was 95 here today, so I know it's gotta be even worse down in Houston. Checking the freon level is a good place to start and then you can go from there.

If you still have some warranty, I would use it if I were you. It's not normal for the ac to require a charge so early in the vehicle's life. Something is obviously wrong.

In my experience if the a/c needs a charge it is because you have a leak somewhere. Charging it may help for a short time if the leak is slow.

From what you describe it sounds like you had a coolant leak.

One thing you can check is the AC compressor, if it doesn't have freon I don't think it will engage. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. If it is cycling and has coolant you may have a door in the housing system not working, usually it is a motor for the door.

You could also check your fuses to see if any have blown.

Don't do what my wife did.... Drove all day in the Texas heat.... no AC.
(The compressor was turned OFF manually with the dash-control.)

So let me get this straight: Your dealer is telling you that a faulty A/C unit is not covered under warranty on a 2-year old truck?

I call BS. Time to find another dealer. I know a guy with an '11 who had similar problems as you (on a QC SLT) and my dealer took care of it immediately under warranty.

^^^^ correct! compressor clutch will not engage if there is no freon in the system. Good suggestions Ramzaq

^^^^ Agree, there should be warranty unless you've gone over the mileage limit.

Good call, Randy. I was just assuming he hadn't gone over the milage. (I think my total care goes to 6/85).
