Default 4.7 Factory Shortblock HP/Torque Limit

Didn't see the answer with a quick search, so I figured I would post up.

What kind of power are you guys holding reliably with the stock shortblock? What part is typically 1st to fail, etc..

It all depends on how you have it tuned. If you're using a plug and play tuner, you cannot adjust the parameters of your shift points as well as a better tuner, such as the new DIABLO SPORT I1000. You can set all shift points up to 40% throttle. Huge difference and it help reduce static wear on your torque converter. (if your heavy in the foot) I've used all the tuners. I now have the Diablo tuner. I needed it. I have 467 HP to the wheels and my trans is stock.

That's a mininium of 570 or better at the crank.
Elaborate on this toy a little Punisher.
You've really peaked my interest .

Yeah I'd love to hear that...

Most people say the stock 45rfe/545rfe/65rfe transmission is good for about 400lb ft. 350 is a good safe number for sure.

I don't know that anyone has pushed the 4.7L to it's limits yet(at least not on the forums). I know a guy that Probably has about 350hp NA and is running I think a 125 or 150 hp shot of nitrous on his. No issues so far. He is on the forum, doesn't post much, I'll email him a link to this thread.

The superchips tuners are by far the best for tuning the transmission settings. I don't know what the guy about is talking about but if you buy the advanced trans tuning with the superchips(about $60 more I think) you get FULL control of shift points of every gear upshift and downshift based on throttle position and rpm, and you can also fully control torque management settings. The only thing you can't control is torque converter clutch lockup(which I think MIGHT be possible with diablo). The problem is with diablo you need to really know what your doing to have that done, usually you pay someone who knows how to tune.

I'd imagine the bottom end of the 4.7L is damn near bulletproof. It has a full crank girdle(in lieu of the conventional individual main caps). I don't know if the 4.7L has the short top ring land issue under boost like the hemi, I'd imagine it does as the combustion chambers of both engines are very similar and both need to pass emissions. If so, going to big boost would mean new pistons at a minimum.

yes the bottom end is a beast in these trucks now had dodge made the rods and pistons the same it would have been nice!

the rods taper as it gets to the piston which makes them weaker when looking a high levels of boost or nitrous.

then the pistons the top ring is only about 1/8 of an inch for the top so it too is not very good at high levels of heat caused by over 10 psi or 100+ nitrous shot. there are some guys that get one of the lucky builds that can put 100+ shot though there truck often and then there are those that the top ring butts and its all over, you just never know which eng. you have until its to late.

I have a zex kit on mine and have only used it a few times and so far never about 75 i also just bought a paxton that will be going in soon and with that i plan on going with eagle rods and forged pistons so i wont have the fear it self-destructing

You running any sort of meth injection, that's one of the few things that'll help keep the top rings from expanding as much and butting together, also pulls alot of heat off the piston top,so the piston has a little more ductility to it,and won't fold the ring lands over as easily.
I'm kind'a waiting to hear about this 2 horse per cubic inch toy Punishers talking about.
That's a bare mininium of 14 lbs boost or a shitload of nitrous.
Takes 1 atmosphere of boost to effectively double the size of the engine,so lets hear more about this 467 horse at the wheels toy Punisher,as like i said, you've peaked my interest.

Hey man sorry for the late response, I've been running full bolt ons, except headers on my 4.7L with no problems. CAI aggressive tune from Sean Powell at Hemifever, custom y pipe from the manifolds back, underdrive pulley, Tstat, plugs (nitrous), TC from edge racing. 4.10's motive and LSD auburn. And this motor has held up good I've had no problems other than changing the water pump because of the belt being to tight (before nitrous). I've been running my nitrous kit on a 125 shot now for about 2 1/2 years now and the motor is doing just fine, I have 79k miles right now trans is also doing well but I did add a deep finned pan to help the cooling.
