Default Warped bed rail caps / tonneau cover

So my bed rail caps warped when it warmed up this spring. Took it to the dealership and they replaced both under warranty, 3 weeks later warped again. They're saying they may not replace them under warranty again because the warping is likely caused by my tonneau cover (Truxedo Lo Pro QT). They say that the warping is caused from the way the tonneau cover mounts to the rails of the truck. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes but the metal of my bed is warped. I have learned that you only need to tighten the clamps just tight enough that the cover doesn't slide left and right.
I've tried to bend them back down with only slight success by standing on a 2x4 on the bed rail. Who would have thought the metal on the rail would be weak enough to bend by hand tightening the clamps? Not me.

I have not figured out why the Gen 4 Rams bed rail under the rail cap is made so uneven

The Gen 3 & earlier bed rails were smooth, people only put rail caps on to protect the paint

Just came back from my RAM dealer regarding the same issue; both bed rail caps are warped in the same area as the tonneau cover clamps [the center clamps on both the drive and passenger side]. The dealer gave me the same story that the warp was caused by the clamps.

This does not make sense to me, especially when seeing complaint regarding this issue on both this forum and the "RAM1500diesel" forum too, with several senior members reporting an on-going RAM problem since year 2009 with warped cap rails.

Can anyone summarize the current status of this discussion?

After the dealer replaced them they haven't warped again. That said, they don't sit nice and flat (wavy) like factory ford and gm caps. But that seems to be a thing with all Gen 4's.

I'm not sure why the caps warped in the first place. My guess it's just a faulty design on Ram's part.

Aren`t all the tonneau covers today mounted with clamps. I have never had a problem or heard of a problem with warping rails. I personally don`t like the look of the rails, (kinda look cheap) would rather have steel exposed rails.

To stop the clamps from deforming the plastic I used some edging trim from McMaster Carr 8451A12. It clips on the pinch weld behind the plastic. It also protects the paint on the edge. The drivers side plastic is much shorter than the pass side on my truck.

Any more detail? Ordered a tonneau yesterday and hope to install this weekend. Thanks.
