Default That new car smell

I usually like that new car smell. I have bought several brand new cars and haven't had any problems, however, the smell of my new Ram is making me nauseous and my throat has been sore. I have been leaving my windows down in the nice weather to try and air it out but its not working. Is this something I have to live with until it fades away?

I like the new car smell too, but it seems it's very strong in the Rams. I've had mine about four months now and it has toned down noticeably. I park in my garage and leave the windows open most of the time.

Do you by chance have rubber floormats? I had no problems with the new car smell in my Ram but I found that the odor in my F150 was overpowering. I eventually traced it to the all weather rubber floormats it came with.

It's been 4 months now and it no longer bothers me, but in the beginning it made me want to hurl after being in the truck for a few hours.

Interesting. I had rubber floor mats for the first three months then swapped them out for carpet when the weather changed. I always attributed the new car smell to the adhesives used in assembly and all of the plastic, but you could be on to something.

I'm sure it's the leather, get some leather conditioner and clean them well. The worst smelling vehicles that I've owned or been in, Japanese and Korean. I've owned a bunch of Toyotas and Mazdas over the years, some would make your eyes water. Leather is supposed to smell like money, hehe.

I see you have the new ED. IT STINKS ! Well.... for at least the first 1000 mi. I swear, the second and third day I had my truck, my eyes were watering.

I think it's just because the exhaust gets so hot... that it REALY just burns everything off, including any volatiles in the insulation.

Its not exhaust or hot smell. Being a diesel mechanic I can handle that. Its definitely the smell of all the new materials in the cab. Letting my windows open has been helping but if its parked in the sun it makes it worse. Its that bad that I swear I can taste it.......

Exactly. It's something in the materials. I have the premium cloth and carpet floor mats and the smell was really bad. I can relate to the sore throat comment. Fortunately it's not as bad as it was 2 months ago. Too bad though because 'that new car smell' should be something you like, it doesnt last forever and cost alot! On a side note, my wifes '14 Durango had the more familiar new car smell you look forward to.

Man I thought I was going nuts...I myself loved the smell for the first few days however, it is getting a little annoying now.! lol If that's the most I worry about, I can handle it!
