Default What is everyone doing for oil change intervals?

So I was told when I bought the truck that it would go for up to 10,000 miles before the computer told us to change the oil. The manual says the absolute soonest the computer would tell you to change was 3,500. I was thinking 6,000 might be better, but then time got away from me and I made it to 8,000 before getting it in to change the oil. They put a sticker in the window and told me to come back in 3,000 miles! I called the dealer and they said you only have to do what the computer says for the warranty, but they recommend every 3,000 miles! Well of course new oil at 3,000 can't hurt, but why not every 1,000 miles! 3,000 seems to soon, 10,000 seems to long (with convential oil).

I usually do my own oil changes (with Amsoil) but I always get nervous on a new car with the warranty... But I'm thinking this fall I'll just change it again with Amsoil and be done for a year.

Just curious what others are doing...

Thanks,
Mike

Another fellow Copperheader! Don't see many, still my favorite color ever. I digress so moving on, I don't put much mileage on my truck so I just change every 8 months. I've talked to a few different service supervisors and that is what they recommend. I only put on about 3,000 miles per year on my truck so I definitely don't want to wait 3-4 years between oil changes. I'm still probably doing it too frequently at that, but I figure it is cheap insurance.

I would go by what the computer tells you

I would think that at 3,000 miles the computer would read that the oil has about 80% Life still left, unless you tow or haul a lot, or use it like a Taxi

I personally use synthetic Mobile One from Walmart for a crazy low price
I change Motor Oil at 5,000 miles, but that is because my job may take me to Oregon, Utah, Texas, or even the East Coast on a minutes notice, if my phone rings, i grab my overnight bag, meds, & start my Ram & i am gone !!

I'm about every 5k for all my vehicles.

I'll probably do my first one at 3K then every 5K after that.

First one was at 2500. Then every 6000 miles after with RP filters and Penzoil PP synthetic.
I know the computer says it's Ok to 10K, but I just don't feel comfortable going that far between changes.

The dealer just wants you to get your oil changed more frequently so they'll get more of your money, though it certainly wouldn't be bad for your engine to do it too often.

I run full synthetic and go between 6000 and 7000 miles between changes.

Mine is low miles (just rolled 6500 at the 12 month mark) so every six months for me, no matter the miles. Luckily my oil changes (up to 4 per year) and inspections are free as long as I own the truck.
