Default First time towing, disappointing

We'll yesterday was the first time I towed with my Ram. It's a 5.7 4X4 Sport with 3:55's and the 6 speed. I was pulling about 4000 pounds. I know some of you are going to say the problem is the 3:55's, well the 3:92's might be better, but not much. First off, the torque management kills this truck, the throttle response is a joke. I was trying to pass someone while doing about 60 kph, and I had to put the accelerator down half way, before the truck did anything. Don't get me wrong, I like my truck, but it should perform much better. Yes it has 3:55's, but with the torque this engine is supposed to have, it should tow much better. I had a 2007 Tundra with 5.7 and the 6 speed, that truck would blow this thing away. The tundra had 4:30's, but the transmission and engine management were awesome. I could lay 20 feet of rubber with the tundra, while towing 6000 pounds. Now I'm not saying I want to lay rubber while pulling a trailer, but Ram should be ashamed of how this truck performs, with the amount of power they advertise. The truck will get the job done, but there are a lot of trucks out there that will do it much better.

20 ft of rubber with 6k lb trailer? Not if you had any tongue weight.
Were you in tow/haul mode?

Think you answered your own question 3.55 vs 4.30. Kind of apples vs oranges isn't it? The 3.55 is a fuel mileage ratio, not a towing ratio. I don't know what your speed limit is in your state but, at 60mph your already over the 2 lane road speed limit in Iowa. On a 4 lane don't see what the rush is in passing.

He's in Canada at 60 kilometers per hour (kph),or roughly 40 mph,not 60 mph.
A lot of 2 lane blacktops in Canada are 100kmh,or roughly 62.5 mph

Also curious as to whether or not you had tow/haul on. My dad's '09 with the 5 speed feels plenty responsive with 4500# and he has 3.21s. You do realize that there is a HUGE difference in 4.30s and 3.55s right? Ram doesn't even offer anything lower than a 4.10 except on the Power Wagon. Your Tundra turned the driveshaft almost one additional complete revolution in order to turn the wheels as the same distance.

I call extreme Bullshit on this post.

I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Hemi with 3:92 and the six speed, My trailer is 30 feet long tongue weight is 900 lbs and Trailer weighs 6900 Lbs dry. Truck and trailer combined length is 53" Bumper to Bumper and I hauled this on the weekend to my local camping spot. My truck can easily spin the tires on take off but not 20 feet no truck could ever do that with out severe modifications. My truck also pulled this like a super champ. I will argue this everyday that every single truck on the market will feel a trailer when pulling away from a stand still once I get this moving you do not even know its there.

I won't go as far as calling "extreme" BS, but I do agree it smells poopy.

My last few trucks have included a Ford V10, a Dodge V10 and three CTD's. I was expecting to be pretty disappointed in the towing of my 1500 Hemi, but, I'm actually quite impressed. Towed my 5,600 pound travel trailer 750 miles last week, with a lot of steep grades, never had any problem going as fast as I was willing to pay the fuel bill for. Kept it at 65 MPH for the long steep grades, but was cruising 70-75 MPH most of the time including the lesser grades. Passed dozens and dozens of semis and slower RV's along the way. More than dozens, a hundred of them, at least. Never felt the least bit under gunned for the task. Like I said, could go as fast as I wanted to suck down the fuel.

Yeah, my CTD's definitely had way more grunt and got way better MPG doing this kind of stuff. But, all in all, I'm very pleasantly surprised at just how well the 5.7/8 speed/3.92's tows.

lmao @ a Toyota leaving 20ft stripes with a trailer.

I think there's something wrong with the truck and the dealer should get involved visa warranty. I have the exact same setup and pulled a 6500 lb bay liner on a tandem trailer with only the mechanical braking system. My Ram had no problems towing the load. Did I know it was there, of course. But I had plenty of power when needed.
