As i mentioned, your Ram may have a Drive-Ability issue
My Ram had that issue, loss of power, cutting out, it seemed like the transmission didn't shift quite right

I took it to the dealership & wrote on the work order just what i remembered happening
They took it into the service bays & must have run a diagnostic, then they did a software update
It only had about 3,000 miles on it at the time

I have to agree with the others, something ain't right. I just pulled a 5600# loaded car trailer with an '11 5.7 5-speed with 3.55's, in tow/haul mode it barely broke a sweat at 65mph.

I have a (hemifever tune) on my 05. If I tow in tow/haul mode it's awesome. My cousin has Tundra with a supercharger. When he rides in my Ram, he says"No way" to the mpg in the evic. I just laugh. BTW, my last truck was a Toyota with a supercharger.

Yeah something isn't right. My 2013 will squeal the tires when it isn't in tow/haul and I have 3.21 gears (though I do have the 8 speed). You can also try resetting the throttle response by turning the key to the on position without starting the truck, kicking the accelerator all the way down and slowly releasing it. That should make it more responsive.

As for the name calling, come on guys. I'm starting to feel like this is an AK discussion on Arfcom

4.30's? If so those would tow 10 times better than your 3.55's. Although I am still some what disappointed with the performance of my truck compared to my 04 considering it's 50 hp more than my 04 was with the same gearing and same weight but I don't tow much and don't need to be the first one to the next red light at $1.47 a litre for fuel lol

There has to be something wrong with the OP's truck. I have the same setup and regularly pull my boat (5,000 lbs.) on the highway and have no trouble crusing at 70 mph and passing quickly at that speed and I don't have to floor it to do so.

The one who said this post is BS if full of it, because your truck will barely spin it's wheels when empty. But you are probably one of thos guys getting 22mpg while cruising at 80 mph too. I'm not sure why some of you are so upset, I was talking about my truck, not your mother. And those who say, why didn't I buy a Toyota , it none of your business how I spend my money. Anyways, my whole point is that this truck could be much better, the software that controls the drive train is killing it. And by the way, if you ever get a chance to drive a 5.7 Tundra, you will see what I am talking about. I said I like my truck, but towing with it was a disappointment, compared what I used to. If you are offended by that.......sorry.
I have driven the yota 5.7 (2011). My ram beat the 2 we had in every facet. Acceleration, towing, fuel economy.
Mine has 3.92 though.
3.92 does make a difference, especially with the gear jump towing

The difference between rear end gear ratios between the Ram and the Toyota doesn't mean a whole lot unless you know the gear ratios of the transmissions. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

That said, the Toyota with the 4.30 would likely have an advantage in gearing. The Tundra has a great reputation for towing with a gas engine.

Hi Carfreak, and All,

First you are correct, the torque management is overly intrusive and will greatly hamper this truck. I know because as you stated that is about the only constant complaint that I see. The problem is these trucks are fly by wire and with the fuel and air flow controls the computer literally has complete control of the engine. It can and does override your input if it falls outside its algorithm.
2) 3.55 is NOT a highway/mileage gear. May I remind all that many of the muscle cars had 3.55 Dana 60s as an option. Sure you could get all the way up to 4.56 if you wanted to pay, but 3.55 was also a standard gear on many of Ma Mopars hottest street burners.
We are talking about a truck that has 400+ ftlb of torque if it can't pull with a 3.55 gear then there is something seriously wrong. Do the math.
I like the idea of resetting the throttle I might give that a try. Thanks for that tidbit Thunderhorse.
BTW Yes a lower gear (i.e. 4.10, 4.30 4.56) will pull a lot harder BUT that does not excuse nor over ride what was said above. 400+ ft lb and 3.55s should be enough to just about rip the hitch off these trucks.
