Default Exhaust knock from used headers

I recently had a set of headers installed that I bought used and even after they were re torqued there is some exhaust knock/leak and the sound is clearly coming from the sides of the engine. Could it be because the headers are used? Should I just replace them with new ones?

headers are always touchy to get to seal up and used ones are probably harder to get sealed up. you might try double gaskets - I have had that work for me leaky headers. Otherwise, yeah try some new ones but use double gaskets from the getgo.

I talked to a mechanic today that said that using double gaskets would definitely make it better but that getting headers to seal was a pain anyways.

Old drag racers trick is to coat both sides of the header gasket with High Temp RTV silicone.
Apparently spend the money for the factory gaskets, most guys say they work very well.
If they're badly wrapped ,and are a high dollar set of headers, with a decently thick flange, you can try seeing if a machine shop can mill the flange face flat

Ok, I think I`ll try the RTV silicone since my boss told me thats what they do on his race truck. I think that might work better if the headers are warped and if that doesn`t work I`ll see about having them machined.
