Default This is it: bye FM 40 hello Magnaflow...

Ok guys give me a hand here....

I'm going tomorrow morning for Magnaflow 18 part#12288. Flowmaster 40 has been good to me but the drone has to go.

I'm throwing this out there in hopes I can get some replies from Magnaflow owners and how they like their mufflers. How's the drone? YouTube and research says not bad. I do have both factory resonators on so hope this will help. Main concern is highway driving.

Thanks!

I have the 14" magnaflow from mufflex with 8 speed and NO DRONE. Sounds great and it's not to loud in my opinion. If you haven't looked into mufflex it's a good option as you can do it yourself and can take it off if need be or swap it to snother truck. I took mine off from my 2012 Ram and it was a pretty simple swap.

I have the 18" Magnaflow. Quad cab, long bed, ramboxes, 6 speed, 3.55s (hope that is enough info). I too just swapped the muffler and left the rest alone for now. It without a doubt is louder and deeper than stock but not obnoxious at all in my opinion. My wife doesn't complain so it can't be that bad. Personally I would be happy with the 14" and no resonators but this keeps the wife, kids, and neighbors quiet so I'm good with it as is.

I can't imagine someone thinking that the drone/sound level is too much with this, otherwise you should just stay with the stock setup.

I always thought the 18" magnaflow was supposed to sound pretty close to the stock muffler? Also, do you have to cut the stock one out to fit in the mufflex setup or just undo clamps?

Thanks all for the replies!

I'm going today to get the Magnaflow 18 put on. I'll post results in a bit!

so I've been searching here and google, and trying to figure out if we have 2.25" or 2.5" outlets? Most part #'s that I find listed for the 14" and 18" are for 2.5" but things I find about stock outlet pipes is that they are 2.25". What say you? I'm also interested in picking something up but would like to avoid a shop install if I can.

Mine is without question not the same as stock. At idle and low RPMs it is not a huge difference but at startup and once you put your foot in it there is a pretty big difference.

Got the magnaflow 18 on. It's perfect! Mikeysotp said it best. Identical characteristics to stock muffler until you hit the gas. You want something that screams look elsewhere. You want stock cruising sounds but louder throttle response, this is it!

I have always been a FM fan until the day I decided to swap the Super 44 on my 2006 Ram to a Magnaflow. I'll never own another FM if I can help it.

I personally run the 22" on my current truck. Not much more than stock at idle but definitely more than stock under throttle. Love it.

I have to say I'm impressed with the magnaflow 18 so far. I know, from what I've read, it will get a bit louder once it wears in, but I would actually welcome that! I bet a 14 would have been just fine also.

I will never own a flowmaster again. Can't believe how much smoother my truck feels, sounds now.
