I figured this was a great spot for my first post since towing is what led me to my Ram. This is the first truck I've owned in over a decade. The bottom line is that gas V6 trucks seem to suck, and gas V8 trucks seem to suck gas. So small diesels have been the way for me. Living in Germany for five of the last ten years made that a little more feasible. They seem to understand the value of a compact diesel. However, when Ram brought out the 3.0 EcoDiesel, I suddenly got interested in owning a truck again. Every one I found in NC seemed to be sold. But with a pending roadtrip to Oklahoma, I decided to scout the Tennessee market around where we were spending the night. Bingo! I found one.
So halfway through a road trip I went from this configuration:
To this configuration:
I literally left the lot with a trailer full of motorcycles in tow. I towed a total of about 1900 miles on that trip, from plains to mountains, finally unhitching the trailer on Sunday. I am very impressed with this engine and the truck as a whole. It tows like a champ, seems to pull harder than the V8s, and I'm getting 27mpgs now that I've dropped the trailer. I think Ram hit it out of the park with this configuration.
