SO went to crappy today and they have the primer stuff its called step one, you spray one coat and it etches in or whatever but u got to scuff it first and if you spray another coat they say you dont have to sand it, but i probably still will with a light sandpaper jsut to give the final coat paint something to stick to, was wondering if i should use the promotion adhesive paint but then got thinking it might screw up the effect of that primer since its designed to have the top coat over it!

What are you using? If you're using the metalcast:
Q. Do I have to use the METALCAST™ Ground Coat on chrome or bare-metal surfaces?
A. No, METALCAST™ Color works best when applied with the CP-199 Adhesion Promoter directly over scuffed chrome-like or bare-metal surfaces. The METALCAST™ Groundcoat is recommended for pre-painted surfaces only.

I think the adhesion promoter should have been sprayed first, in your present situation I would just go ahead without it.

I do all my painting with spray guns but the most important step in painting is in the prep. Make sure you scuff sand with 320 grit and use a sealer primer prior to painting. After spraying your base color I would follow up with a coat of clear to enhance the gloss and protect the base coat.
The other day at a dealer I saw a truck with all the paint peeling from the grille shell. Someone attempted to paint the grille shell black over the factory chrome without priming or preping the surface. Moral of the story is if you don't prep right you will end of with a mess.

Ya so i think for now i wills cratch the idea of painting the rims just so i dont paint it to ahve it happen to chip and then look like crap, also i was thinking if i take it offroaidng at all i am sure soemthing will scrape them all up and make em look dumb, if anything i will get another rim or even take out the grill and try it on that to see how it turns out.

Anyone taken out the grill on there truck the mesh looking part not the whole thing? How do the little pop rivet things come out without breaking or did you jsut break them and get new ones?

thanks
