Default 03 Dakota R/T problem

My brother has a 03 Dakota R/T with the 5.9, CAI,TBS,ignition amplifier, and tuned for it all, and it does something really weird. When driving normally its shifts perfectly, no problems, no complaints, smooth as it should with only 75,xxx miles. But when at WOT from either a dead stop, or hitting it from cruising speed and having it downshift, when it comes time to shift again 55-5600 rpm i think. IT WONT SHIFT!? you've got to let off,let it shift then hit it again. anyone have any ideas, please respond.

Try adjusting the bands first, but the tranny in those trucks suck. Avg around 80,000 miles then you looking for a rebuild. I think mine made 84,000 miles before having to have it rebuild.

The bands are adjustable on the trans. If ya get a Haynes manual tells you how to do it. I can't remember exactly which is which but one adjustment is on the side of the trans other is inside pan. If I remember correctly the 1-2 adjustment is on outside of pan. It might help a little but mine only lasted a few WOT pass before it was back to doing the same thing. Some have also had some luck with replacing the sending unit inside pan but again that only lasted me a few weeks before it was doing the same thing.
Depening on wether you plan on moding the truck or not have them upgrade transmission when you have it rebuild. They can put stronger internals in it and upgrade it to a(can't remember exactly) 47 or 48re ,which basically adds another band and larger drum. Not a trans guy so just a local shop that has knowledge of these transmissions or look online

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm

http://www.smrtrans.com/

Might also have him register over at http://************* and check out forum there. Alot of knowledge running over there and he maybe can find some other places also.
