Default 2001 24 Valve Silencer Ring removal?

Is there any advantage to be gained by removing the silencer ring leading into the turbo? I wonder if the silncer ring helps direct the air into the turbo creating a smoother, quicker air flow than it would with the ring removed? Any thoughts?

I was wondering about that myself recently.

Check out this link, about half way down on the page ...

I removed mine, and the only thing I noticed was a much louder whistle when the turbo winds up.

I did mine and noticed a little more whistle at higher pressures nothing major. Its easy and only takes a few minutes.

It's like using a gear drive for cam timing. No real gain but it sounds cool.
