I work as a Crew Director for an oilfield environmental company. Basically I coordinate, facilitate, and direct projects. In other industries I would be called a project manager. I work a 7 day on/ 7 day off schedule on a 24 hour rotation. The division I am in cleans drilling mud residue out of the tanks of OSVs or Offshore Support Vessels such as these:

We also clean out dry bulk (cement used for capping wells, etc) tanks on these same vessels, using one of these:

Basically that is a huge vacuum cleaner on wheels.

Due to the hazards associated with the job (extreme heat/ cold, confined space entry, chemicals etc), every so often we have to deal with this:

That last picture is something I fight everyday I go to work with every fiber of my being. Most incidents or injuries can be prevented. When I have to see a scene like that, it is going to be not only a long night, week, month, but potentially a long year as well. I care a great deal about my guys and have only had to deal with a situation like this on my watch once and despite it being a simple heat exhaustion, it was scary enough and I hope to never encounter it again.

Thats a little bit about what I do, I realized that when I replied before to this thread I kind of made a cover statement and never really explained it.

I'm fortunate, I get to work from home. Nothing like rolling out of bed, throwing on some sweats and going to work. Plus, on those days when the burrito for lunch doesn't agree with me, the only person besides me who has to suffer is the dog. I'm a DBA for a CMMS provider and love it.

Default Work!

As the OP started this thread about Hydro Power, I am a Powerplant Electrician at a dam in Southern Oregon. In the past I have also worked for WAPA which is one of the largest power distributors in the country. I have worked with voltages up to 500KV.

Here is a pic of my present work environment! This is the headwaters for the Rogue River here in Oregon!

I work for acompany called Crown Electric Engineering and Mfg. , We fab and Install ISO PHASE BUS for Power Plants. We connect the generator to the transformer at the Plants, best thing is I get to travel on someone else's dime! Next year we may be heading to Europe for a month to work at a Nuclear Plant there.

I have been working at my local Dodge dealer for the past 6 years. When I graduated I wasn't sure what I wanted to do so I worked a couple jobs then I spent 5 years as a mechanic. Got my Journeyman/Red Seal ticket. When I began my apprenticeship I knew this was something I didn't want to do the rest of my life but I wasn't going to do nothing with my young age. Figured it would give me something to fall back on in the future if anything devestating happens. Loved vehicles and figured I would educate myself. After finishing up that I decided to move into the parts department. I enjoy looking up parts and accessories and helping customers dress up there new 4th gen ram's. I am apprenticing for my ticket in this trade as well. After completion of this who know's whats next??
