Default So whos actually dyno....

Who here has actually put there truck on a dyno. we just got our shop dyno up and running since we moved and I was able to put the new truck up on the dyno. I must say for this 5.7 I and very very disappointed.

The truck made 249 rwhp and 282 rwtq. For a motor that is rated at 375 hp it should of at least made 300 to the wheels. Even on my mustang dyno.

Oh by the way this is with my diablo predator tune in it. We did find that the biggest problem with these motors is going to be heat soak.

We even tried opening the intake and taking the filter out and running an open or cracked open box with no filter to get the absolutle best air flow and it didnt even give me 1hp difference.

Thisi makes me think that adding an intake really isnt going to make that big of a differnce. I will keep you guys posted though.

Having the dyno again will allow me to put the truck up there every couple of weeks or at least every time I get somethign done to it to see if it makes a difference.

Bill

I am watching this thread for sure. Especially with my interest in fabbing a custom intake for the 4.7. Making sure colder air gets in to get more HP was my main concern... interesting discovery you made.

5.7 is advertised at 345 hp 375 tq. I know in the charger's that have been Dyno there having # any where from 265 hp to 288 hp and in the range of 306 tq. The chargers have a high rated tq @ 390.

ahhh, I was thinking the 375 was hp. Then that makes more since to me know. Because typically you will see between 12 to 16% lose threw the drive train but with an auto it is a little more then that. So I guess that is reasonable. But still I would have thought it would have made more with the programmer. I still need to get things worked out with the tune though.

My biggest problem is keeping the truck in 3rd gear while on the dyno. If I mash the gas it just down shifts into 2nd and does a burn out so these numbers are me not flooring it all the way either.

Hey Chithead, its not so much the cold air getting into the motor more so it is that the hot air need to get out of the engine bay better. Most intakes already do a pretty good job getting the cold air for the most part and keep the hot air out as long as it has a box around the filter.

Does anyone know how to keep the truck in 3rd gear? I take the over drive off to make sure it doesn't go into 4th but I had to roll into it every time to make sure the truck wouldn't down shift.

Anyone?

As for the heat soak goes everyone says to change the thermostat. The factory is at 195 and recommends to put a 180 one in. the other thing is all that composite plastic that is on the engine ( valve covers, oil pan and intake manifold ) keeps heat in and then the exhaust headers. Warning to people who live in cold climates. Making the engine run cool could keep you cool as well in the middle of winter

Anyone?
the tip or trick is to shift it back into 2 when at 5k rpms and it should hold 3rd gear...
