Default 1995 5.9 with bad vibrations

Hello,
I have a 1995 Ram1500 etx cab with a 5.9. My problem is that my truck runs and drives fine as long as the rpm are above about 1800. However, my truck is about 1500rpm at the speed limit. At about 1500 rpm, my whole truck starts to vibrate. If I turn, the overdrive off the rpm will go up to about 2000 and the shaking will stop.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated thanks,
Wes

Is it an engine vibration, a driveline vibration or wheel vibration, Wes?

I think it is a trans problem but not sure it shakes the whole truck like the driveshaft is bent but only in OD and about 1500rmp if I turn the OD off it works pretty well all RPM and speeds.

If you can take your transmission out of O/D and the problem goes away, you've lost the transmission... Owned a Bronco that suffered the same issues... I was told by one of the local guru's a planetary set in the box died.... something like a grand for the set of gears on top of the usual fees for repairs

Od still works as long as i drive about 65 or 70 fast enough to keep the rpm above 2000

Here's a couple of ideas to check...

U Joints

Intermediate driveshaft carrier bearing

Transmission output shaft bearing

Third member bearing.

I have narrowed it down to the OD in the trans. The od works fine just as long as you keep it above about 2000 rmp. According to a local mechanic, the only electronic part of the trans. is the OD itself. Is there a OD sensor, relay or something that I can check or replace. Just got laid off and trying to keep it cheap.

Thanks Wes

Would a faulty Overdrive lockup solenoid cause these problems? Also would someone like to walk me through replacing one. They are not expensive and I would be willing to give it a try before I take it to the trans shop$$$$$$$$$$$$$
