Default Program an additional Key Fob?

I just picked up an 05 Quad 4X4 with a 5.7 Hemi.

My question is this.

I had an extra Fob from my 03 Quad. I was wondering how to program it (if possible) w/o a trip to a dealer.

It would be the third Fob for this truck. I like to keep a complete extra set (fob and key) as a spare.

Any help would be appreciated since the truck I recently purchased had no owners manual.

Thought this might help you:

Programming Additional Transmitters
Up to four transmitters can be programmed. When programming a new transmitter, all transmitters intended for use with this vehicle, except the transmitter used to start the programming mode, must be programmed within the 30-second programming mode. To program a transmitter, turn the ignition switch to the ON position with the vehicle stopped. Press and hold the unlock button on a currentlt programmed transmitter for a minimum of four seconds and a maximum of ten seconds. While pressing the unlock buttor, press and release the panic button. Release the unlock button and a single chime will sound. This indicates that the module is in programming mode. Within thirty seconds, press and release the lock or unlock button on all transmitters intended for use with this vehicle except the transmitter used to start the programming mode. Successful programming will be indicated by a single chime.
NOTE: When programming mode is entered, programming is cleared from programmed transmitters and the transmitters will need to be reprogrammed.

Well, that did not work. I now have only one programmed fob and two de-programmed fobs.

Guess I am off to the dealer.

Fd, sorry it didn't work for you. Like rpreburn said, it may not be the correct key, even though they look similar. Good luck to you!!

I found the instructions for programming my 02 right in the owners manual. A dealer parts manager across the street from my work told me to look there. Give it a look see. Good luck.

Thanks guy's.....Ii don't have a manual, I bought the truck used and I haven't gotten an owners manual yet...

I tried the one poist but it wiped the computer of the second remote and the only one that would work after that was the remote I was using to go to the program mode.

I ended up at a dealer, spent $30 and got the other two reprogrammed so I now have my 3 fobs..

thanks anyway!

i read something online saying it can be done but in nervous about doing it cuz it tells me i have to

1) Turn ignition to OFF.

2) Locate the Data Link Connector, its a black 16 pin connecter that is under the driver's side dash, right where your right knee would be. You have to look up into the dash from below to see it.

3) Ground pin 1 of the Data Link Connector by taking a wire or paper clip and running it from pin 1 to pin 4. Pin 4 is ground so you can just short pin 1 to 4 and it will be grounded. Grounding pin 1 tells the system you are ready to reprogram it.

4) Close all of your doors.

5) Turn the key to ACC then back off. The power door locks will lock/unlock. This is the signal that the system is ready for reprogramming.

6) Push a button on your key fob, doesn't matter which button.

7) If you have 2 key fobs, then press a button on the 2nd fob within 1 minute of pressing a button on the 1st fob. Both must be programmed at the same time. If you only have 1 fob then press a button 2 more times to signal that you only have one.

8) The doors will lock/unlock to signal the codes were received.

9) Remove the jumper wire from the data connector."

any opinions i just dont wanna fry my electrical system by putting two wrong wires together???
