Default Good source for crate engines

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while so, first, I want to say hi. Next, I want to know if you all have a good source for crate engines. I recently decided I'm going to keep my Ram forever but I'd like to start looking for a crate 360 for my 01 4x4 w/auto transmission. It currently has a 318 in it but I'd like to eventually go to the 360. From what I understand, this shouldn't be a difficult switch. What do you all think? I suppose I could go with a rebuildable 360 since my 318 is just fine but I'd much rather get a turn-key.

Thanks!
Monte

Before you do, take a look at what Dodge offers through:

www.mopar.com and wander around... it's in the catalog

The factory crate engines are fantastic and there are 360's well over a horse per inch... pretty nice stuff

Hey cerres, Am I missing something because all the ones I see say they aren't for use with A/C?
Thanks

The engines, as with all crates, are pushed for max power. What it amounts to is you've a horrifying amount of BTU being soaked up by the coolant which, more than not, overwhelms the radiator. Accordingly, they want the radiator to remove the heat without any interference. Dodge use to do this back in the seventies, they didn't offer A/C with some of their vehicles.. I'm one of the individuals who had no A/C on more than one vehicle...

360 in a 3/4 Dodge
427 in a Camaro
I can tell you the heads are machined for all accessories.
Once owned a 3/4 fwd ford with a very perked 400M... with the a/c on the damned thing would over heat every time... Put a FlexOLite under the hood once.. it sounded like an F-4 breaking ground and it still over heated!

One option, with one of those hopped up MOPAR crate engines, is to get an aluminum high capacity radiator and some BeCool electric fans with a relay tied to the coolant temp sensor.

That will keep that beast cool!

I say go for the crate MOPAR. You can either reuse your stock accessory brackets or get aftermarket ones from Summit, March or other suppliers.

Cool thanks for clearing that up. I gotta have A/C otherwise my MS gets horrible in the summer. I'll have to do some thinkin. I'm thinkin with a big radiator, fans, and an oil cooler, I could keep it cool.

We use to go as far as adding another ten gallons of coolant in the bed of the pickup and circulate the whole damned thing! We once tried putting another radiator (wasn't much of a radiator but hey, any port in a storm!) sideways against the frame rail with an air guide to get all we could to help cool.
I hated those days! Praise be (enter your favorite entity here) for diesels...

So, you don't think I could keep it cool enough? Why the heck can't they just sell a "stock" 360? I can do my own mods. Maybe I'll just get a short block and build one the way I want.
