Default Gear change in VA

Anyone know/recommend a good place to change out my gears in the Norfolk, VA area.

I'm 2wd so obviously doing the rear only.

If you're still under warranty, I'd get it done at the dealer that way your warranty stands a good chance of staying intact.

The dealer wants $2k for a ring and pinion change. I almost died laughing. I've changed the gears in most all the vehicles I've owned so far (one Jeep twice. went from 4.10s to 4.56s then 4.88s). Granted I did all those myself with a buddy but I don't know anyone around here to help me so I'm looking for a shop. I don't have the confidence to swap them out on my own. Not really worried about the warranty b/c as long as they are set up correctly they will be fine.

I guess I could look into it again. That last price was down in Jax.

Wow thats outrageous . When I worked at a dealership , we charged 6 hours labor to overhaul a differential plus parts . Did that price include the purchase of the gears also ?

yeah that was gears, install kit (bearings, shims, crush sleeve, etc.) and labor...plus dealer mark-up!

The gears alone were somewhere around $800!!

what does labor typically run...ballpark? $80/hr?
