Default Can you haul a Car with a 4.7L?

I currently own a 2000 Sport QC with the 5.9L and factory tow kit. We haul a show car on an 18 ft trailer with electric brakes no problem, stopping or starting.

Truck has 108K on it now so considering a new truck. I saw a sweet 2007 BigHorn with a 4.7 (and no trailer package) auto, and 20" wheels with only 18K miles on it. Obviously I'd need to get the trailer brakes and Class IV hitch put on the truck but the real question is, is this going to haul a car and trailer that weighs around 5000 lbs? I live in the NJ / Pa area so there are lots of hills to deal with too when we pull the car to shows. My gut tells me the 4.7 is right on the limit....

Yeah, the 4.7L is a bit light when it comes to torque, which you need to move the load.

What is the GVWR on that truck? If you weigh the loaded trailer + the loaded truck (people, fuel, cargo) and that gross number exceed the GVWR of the truck, I'd pass on it.

if you get the vin you could call up Ram trucks and they can give you all of the towing info about your truck

2007 Ram 1500 maximum towing capacity is
3750 lb with V6,
7650 with 4.7 V8,
9100 with 5.7.

from what i have read, merging with traffic from an on ramp & climbing hills, takes planning & patience, if it has the tow package, it should have a heavy duty radiator & a transmission oil cooler

The 4.7L would do it, but it'd be hard pulling on hills and starts, but as long as you have the ability to kepe everything cool, you'd be fine.

Default Towing with 4.7

I tow 5100 pounds with mine and it does pretty good, a little slow off the line but pulls hills fairly well. I have a 3.55 rear end and i put about 500 pounds in the bed and 2 people.
