Default any common problems for 00 ram 1500 5.9?

just trying to be prepared for any big problems i might encounter. My ram has 96xxx miles and i just bought it a few days ago seems to run like a champion shifts fine for now but i was just looking for some wisdom from an experienced ram owner! like when i might want to expect problems thank you for your time and help!

also when i turn my wheel i hear this loud squeaking noise from under the hood and it seems to be the steering linkage can i just grease it up or what can i do?

I believe your truck has an intermediate steering shaft bushing which can be greased.

The only real area I would expect you may want to pay attention to is the front suspension (steering end links and trackbar) which seem to go first on these trucks. Otherwise, it should give you great service.

and it also gives the same noise when the front end bounces too like speed bumps could this be the problem you are talking about?? and how will i know when those things you mentioned go bad and how much should i expect to pay to fix them??

Yes, the steering shaft is built to flex at the bushing so I would expect it to squeek.

One way to know when the steering endlinks and trackbar are wearing is the truck will not steer well, it may pull (like it needs an alignment) and it won't track well on rutted roads.

Depending on if you have to replace just the endlinks or the trackbar at the same time, you are looking at $450 to $750 for the job at most shops. That will include an alignment.

i have a 2000 ram 2500 5.9 at 115000 miles and ........

mine needed a new heater/air condition core.. big money fix they had to take top and bottom dash apart

also i currently need a new rear end $2000 for a used one to be installed. the gears in my pumkin are all grinded up is what ive been told...

strong engine though! hahaha

Wow...that sucks. Did the lube in the diff go bad? What about the axle bearings? Been doing the "Gravedigger" thing again?

yes, it was crap brown from the reaction with the metal grindings. axle bearings were fine as far i knew.

yeah trucks a money pit haha but i love that style. new ones are a little over the top for me. no offense to the people that have em.
