I've had my MDS come on at highway speeds.

The only reason i know what the light looks like is because my uncle has a black Ram just like mine and I took it out for a cruise; the "Fuel Saver" light was poppin on and off and on like you wouldn't believe. He averages 18.5mpg while mine is registering 13.5. I took it into the dealer last week (second time) and said "look, this thing has got to be BROKE".

They said everything is good according to the codes (pshhh).

However, the other half of the reason I was at the dealer is because I had a whistle coming from the rear end at 60+ mph. I figured they would replace the gears; they're replacing the entire axle! The tech did note that the MDS problem may be related.

They fixed two recalls while I was there the first time: 1st was something with the seat squeek and I've seen that mentioned here. The 2nd was a hose clamp somewhere. I'll post the recall numbers when I follow up...

Wink

My dealer called last week. There is a flash available for spark advance, and ruff idle. Nothing said about MDS. Goes in Friday for the PCM flash, and 1st. Oil Change. I'll let you know the outcome. Also, the MDS indicator can be disabled in the setup. Make sure it is enabled first. Also, it is noticable in the exhaust noise when in MDS. Mine will only every now and then show. A friend's '09 will stay on at 70 mph, as long as the road is level. I've wondered about tire pressure, brake drag, axle friction, etc. but, I believe it is something more with the computer. Seems those who have it working, it is on most of the time, and mileage averages around 19 mpg. Mine, hardly ever on, never about 50 mph, and about 13.5-14 mpg average. Also, for some reason, mine doesn't seem to have the peformance. Seems doggish. At WFO from dead stop seems okay, but passing at 55 mph, something is wrong.

Hi All:
I guess this thread is kind of sputtering out. If the moderator thinks I need to start a new one about MDS only please let me know.

I just took a short ride around Death Valley, about 110 miles, at crusing speed,65-68 MPH, and am getting 17.6 MPG.
The truck has 1700 miles on it with the 5.7 Hemi. Is this good, bad or not enough miles to get a good read yet?
I forgot to mention I live in Nevada about 30 miles from the outside of Death Valley and the temp. this time of year is only in the mid 90's

I took mine in for the MDS light and they said my build date was to early for it. Also I can not tell when my MDS kicks in. I have an aftermarket exhaust but they claim it is working fine. Might go to a different dealer with the above info.

Glad I saw this posting. I bought my '09 in late January and have been trying to find out about a "fuel saver" indicator ever since. The manual does not mention squat about it. I have EVIC and have not been able to see any reference about it nor do I see ever see any indicator going off and on. I have noticed a rough idle at times and I was expecting better mileage than I am getting. I had an '03 that got as good of mileage as this new one does. I am going to check with my dealer about the recalls that have been mentioned and will post what I find out. Thansk!!

Thought I would point out that if your Ram doesn't have any steering wheel controls (buttons) on it then your Ram will also not have the MDS light.

At least thats what I was told by the dealer.

The documentation of the fuel saver light for my '09 (build date in March 09) was in a separate supplement to the manual.
