Default Road trip!

Well, after much back and forth we decided to drive from Pittsburgh to Orlando this summer (wedding and Disney). The Ram will get some major Highway miles....

Anyone have any tips or suggestions before I make my trek (early June). Also, anyone from my general area have suggestions as to a good place to stay over on the way down, I doubt we will make the whole trip in one day. I am hoping to get as far as possible though (S. Carolina or Georgia) Just never been further than Hilton Head south and I am not that familiar with decent places to stop.

gas up in emporia virginia south of richmond on I-95. north carolina has more expensive gas. south carolina and georgia are cheap gas too. Florida is higher price on gas. Motels that time of year will be up a little higher. If you can travel monday-thursday you might beat the traffic a little. i like florence, sc, for a stopping point but can't think of anything special about it.

I use gasbuddy to look ahead to find the cheapest gas and motel6 app to find places to sleep.

you may want to look at these routes

Pittsburgh to Orlando
via I- 70 W to I-77 S and I-95 S
14 h 32 min
971 miles

stay off the I-95 as long as possible, everyone else uses that road

look at
I-77 S, I-26 E and I-95 S to Orlando

you will be going towards Charlotte NC/Roanoke, Charleston & Savannah

santee is a great stop but nothing supremely notable about it. usually has cheaper gas in south carolina. I usually stop there just to get some pecanpralines at the gas station on the east side of exit and north side of the road. fireworks too

To You And GT!!!!

Listen to GT he has put some hard miles on his truck and knows a lot about the roads.

Also, listen to hemi4452 about booking the hotels. That is some good advise as well.

Wish I could join you on this one. I love it when some one takes a Ram over the road like your doing.

Oh and I almost forgot- You may have thought of this already, but check over all fluids and change any that may need it as well as check your tires and make sure they are at the correct pressure (This will help with fuel economy.). And don't forget to bring some bulbs for head light, tail light, and direct. signals.

Especially avoid I-95 anywhere north of Richmond Virginia, south of that seems to get better usually but between Quantico and Richmond is usually a mess.

I believe this is the way I will be going. Has anyone stayed outside Savannah? I am hoping to get to Hardeeville or Pooler GA before stopping to sleep for the night. Then finishing the trip the next day. (we are actually going to St. Augustine 1st for a wedding then heading to Disney from There.)
