Question new member

new member here;; my son has an 06 Ram 1500 quadcab 4x4. we intend on replacing the front shocks on this truck and putting a 2 inch lift spacer in it (will it need an alignment afterwards). how difficult is this. It looks like the spring is part of the shock, are they struts??? Can it be done without and special tools?? We know our way around a vehicle but wanted to check here before we started something too big for us.
